Default Alcohol use on Atkins

Hi I am on induction but I am suppose to go out this weekend. I would like to have a glass of wine or maybe a vodka and soda water. Would that be completely horrible? I am on my 4th day, I am completely on it and am also working out.
Thanks for your feedback....

Zinah

Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, 2002 ed, chapter 14, Frequently Asked Questions section
Quote:
The body burns alcohol for fuel when alcohol is available. So whe it is burning alcohol, your body will not burn fat. This does not stop weight loss; it simply postpones it.
What Dr. Atkins doesn't say is that while your body is burning up the alcohol, it's busy breaking down and storing the fat, carbs and proteins you've eaten. So, yeah, it postpones your weight loss.

The 14 day Induction is important because it gets our bodies into ketosis and the results we get from it helps us determine how to proceed with our Atkins.

I'm sure you will get many replies here on this thread and in PMs to the effect of "I drank during Induction and it never hurt my weight loss." And for the most part, that is true, because we are individuals and our bodies may react differently to different foods/beverages. While these individual experiences are helpful, there is no way to guarantee that your body will react in a similar fashion.

If it were me, I'd skip the drinks until Induction is over.

It's up to you if you want a stall in your weightloss or not.

I had a couple beers last weekend. I lost 4 lbs my first week of induction, could have been more weightloss without the beers I guess. I'm not going to kill myself over it though.

I had two glasses of white wine last Sunday, I was on day 11 of induction. I was a little angry with myself, but for some odd reason I managed to lose 4 pounds by Wednesday and 1 more on Thursday. So I think I need to drink more white wine. Just kiddin..

I have buckled down since, and decided to stay on extended induction for a few more weeks. I am not having any cravings, so why not..

I know that this can be a tough decision. I also know that going out and being social is very difficult if you like to drink and cant. When I decided I was going to go back on Atkins I made a promise to myself not to drink for 30 days, and then only rarely afterwards. As part of that decision I took myself out of the loop for going out and being tempted. My husband and I love to go out to dinner and share a bottle of wine so I knew that just wasnt going to be an option for me in the first month. It really was not that big of a deal and I am so glad I did. For me it was more of a mind focus than anything else. I knew in order to be successful this time around I had to commit to not breaking any rules for 30 days. That really helped me with my mind set. I would say wait if you can, you will wake up the next day very proud of yourself.

speaking of alcohol.. is soda water and vodka usually the best mixed drink to get? i've been trying to consider a list of drinks to consider, and sugar-free redbull/diet coke are ones i'm trying to stay away from due to my anxiety.

i heard somewhere that baileys and cream doesn't have too many carbs? what do you guys all drink?

Vodka is a great choice since so many are flavored these days. I personally like a dry vodka martini but i swore those off 2 years ago. You can also use a diet beverage as a mixer. Someone on another post said that vanilla vodka and diet coke was good. I think Baileys would have a ton of carbs. It has a lot of sugar in it. I am flying to Las Vegas tomorrow and I plan on being a bit naughty. Not food wise, heck its easy for me to stick to the plan. But as far as drinks go it will be a challenge.

I've said it before I'll say it again.....

Skip the Alcohol.

Look cool like Micheal Corleone in The Godfather...drink Club Soda on the rocks...

better yet, be the designated driver for your friends...might save a life.

Best of luck!
