Default Stanford Study: women lose more on AD

I heard part of this last Friday on NPR and it was very interesting. It was what motivated me to get back on AD.

The nutritionist talked about diet messages are oversimplified (e.g. you'll lose weight on a low fat diet if you consume all low fat products).

He mentioned how the AD message has been oversimplified to the point of "All carbs are bad" or something like that.

Stanford Study Weighs In on Popular Diets



Talk of the Nation, March 9, 2007 · Researchers at Stanford University recently published a paper that examined four popular diets. The study found that the low-carbohydrate Atkins diet led women to lose more weight and generally see better "overall metabolic effects."

this particular study has been getting alot of media time in the last week, and that's a plus. the one thing that struck me is that the average loss after one year was only 10 lbs. i understand the law of averages, but if there are women in the n who have 100 lbs to lose, you'd think the number would be higher.

Compliance was pretty bad across all the diets so the numbers are quite low.
