Default South Beach Diet Statement

I am the type of person that researches just about everything I get involved in. Although, 15 years ago, I lost 30 pounds with low-fat/high protein diet, but I worked out vigorously at the gym 4 times a week. Needless to say I was burned out.
I started Atkins recently (after research) and although I am skeptical about the high fat, I was intriqued by the low carbs. I have hypoglycemia and hope that this way of eating will be beneficial.
Anyway, upon reading info on the South Beach Diet I came across this statement."In contrast, when a person eats bad carbohydrates and fats they feel hungrier, causing them to eat more, which causes weight gain".
Now, I am by no means an expert but I can surely attest to one thing.
When I started Induction (5 days ago), I followed and documented everything I was supposed to do. TO THE LETTER. What i discovered was, yes, I am eating a lot of fat BUT I AM NOT HUNGRY AT ALL DURING THE DAY. Their claim that eating fat will make you hungry is totally bogus. I have NO urge to snack between meals although between 7 & 10 at night I would like to snack, but that is just habit from watching tv.
Now I don't know if it's true that 'eating bad carbs and fats together makes you hungrier, but I do know that on Atkins I am satisfied till the next meal.
That made an impression on me since my low fat diet days, I was always hungry. Some may say that was because of my vigorous workouts. Maybe... But I know that I tried Weight Watchers for a month, with little exercise, and I was ALWAYS hungry and didn't lose one pound.
First 4 days of Atkins and I dropped 3 pounds. Can't wait to get my cholestorol checked in a couple of months.

My own experiences are the same as yours. Low fat diet caused me to be constantly hungry and thinking about food. Low carb/high fat makes me satiated much quicker and longer. But yeah maybe they mean the combination of high carbs and high fat not high fat alone, otehrwise it makes no sense.

I also have to wonder if the statement is the combination of high carbs and bad fats together? I'll have to look at my Atkins book, but I think Dr. Atkins addresses that very combination of foods, and also says that it is a major contributor to obesity. However, what Dr. Atkins calls a "bad" fat and what Dr. Agatson (SB) calls a "bad" fat are different. Dr. Atkins calls trans-fats bad fats, but not animal fats. I believe Dr. Agatson refers to transfats AND animal fats as "bad" fats. Dr. Agatson and Dr. Atkins both believe in the "goodness" of vegetable fats when not corn based and not hydrogenized...I *think* (it's been over 2 years since I read South Beach).

Anyway, there are plenty of members doing a high fat Atkins by the book plan here on ADBB who have had tremendous success in weight loss, improved lipid profiles, and improved blood glucose levels. These same members do not eat a pound of bacon fried in a pound of butter for breakfast every morning! So, read the book, follow the plan by the book and you will be healther and lighter

I assume it means high carb WITH high fat. It's a true statement. Think of all the foods that are notoriously fattening: fried chicken, pizza, pies and pastries. They're combinations of lots of refined carbs with high fat content.
