| After induction we start to reintroduce the various levels/rungs of food according to the order laid down in the Chapter in DANDR called Ongoing Weightloss (OWL). In this 'carbohyrate ladder' alcohol comes as number 5, after more induction veggies, more dairy, nuts/seeds and berries and melons. Depending on your body's reaction you would be able to drink alcohol once you reach that stage. One extra thing you need to take into account is that your body will utilise alcohol as a fuel in preference to anything else you eat and so will 'suspend' weightloss till it has used it up, maybe also storing any excess fat/protein you eat in your body! So you will have to weigh up that effect against your desire to lose weight!!

| If you are one that can have a drink or two on the weekend, and it helps you feel like you can stick to the plan in general I say go for it. I'm not a person that can enjoy a beer or two. It quickly turns into many more. I knew a gal (the one that led me to Atkins) that would have vodka on her evenings out. She lost weight quickly. She sadly gained it back when she went back to eating cookies and other junk. |

| I would try and stay away from alcohol during induction. ALcohol will slow your progress. I choose to drink wine about 2- 3 times a week because my husband and I love wine. I know my weight would come off faster if I abstained. But it is coming off and I am enjoying the quality of my life right now. So it really is a personal choice. It is a trade-off and you have to decide what is easier for you to live with. |

| Why drink alcohol, your body stops burning fat and burns alcohol. So basically all the hard work you did up to that point stops. Go figure. |

| if you choose to drink alcohol, remember to increase your water accordingly - takes something like two glasses of water to metabolize one glass of alcohol.

| The body indeed follows an order of priority when it comes to burning off units of energy, and unfortunately, alcohol is first in line - followed, of course, by protein, then carbohydrates, and finally fat. I do not drink alcohol at all, and feel that this has always provided a nice little "edge" for me. However, it must be pointed out that there are plenty of fit people out there who do drink it!

| We had a dinner party the other night with a open bar, so I had to have a few, well more than a few but I have had nothing but a glass of wine in a month. I had V.O. with water on the rocks. It acctually tasted good, I think I have a new drink.
