Default Support please

I have been doing atkins for over 2 weeks now and on thursday i signed up for a gym membership..so i did what i shouldnt have did..i figured "well since i'm going to be going to the gym tomorrow, one day cheating wont hurt"..so i cheated on the atkins diet.."ate chocolate"

So then i went to the gym and worked out(very hard)...and yesterday...after coming back from the gym..sugar took hold of me. Well not really...i ate a little oatmeal...with a little sugar in it.

And after that i felt horrible. I wanted to cry. I mean, i've have been trying to loose weight for over 5 years and nothing is more frustrating then these setbacks. Last night i promised myself from now on i'm going to spend 3 hours a day at the gym, and today i promised myself i would eat NOTHING. You know, people who are slim always think that people are fat because they wanna be, but in reality, its really a mental thing. Your physically capable of achieving almost anything, but mentally its way harder then you think.

I just know that I WILL NOT GIVE UP. I been giving up for over 5 years, i already lost like 12 pounds, cant go back to my old self. Just have to take this as a learning lesson

Any words of wisdom for me???

Move on Smirk...it's done and all you can do now is go forward. You did the right thing though to reach out and ask for some support! I come here several times a day just for that reason...I don't always post, but I will always leave with encouragement from reading one post or another.

Being organized relieves a lot of stress and helps when those "I want sugar" attacks take hold.

What works for me is to keep stir-fried pieces of chicken or beef in a container in the fridge, I keep cut up veggies ready, I cut cheese up ahead of time, have boiled eggs available.....in other words, invest some time in prep work because it'll pay off in the end. Sometimes it's easy, sometimes not.

You'll be ok
...you've got all of us here for those times when you feel like you're not ok.

Yes... I'd ditto what the others said: Look to the future and learn from the past. Always keep a high fat snack handy for when cravings hit.

I don't think it's a good idea for you to eat nothing the day after a fall from the wagon. Fasting will just encourage your body to go into starvation mode and will slow down your loss. Just get straight back into induction and carry on from there.

You so can do this!

I agree with Sally...eating nothing is just as detrimental to success as cheating. Best you can do is chalk it up to experience and move on...success is still at your fingertips and it's up to you to not let it slip through!

Best of luck and if you need anything just give a shout!

Thanks for all the advice/support. I've been following the atkins diet the whole time except the two times that a cheated...i had lost like 12 pounds but really, i have way more to loose, I guess i shouldnt not eat anything, not healthy but that was the only solution i came up with at the time

Prep work sounds like a good idea...thanks for that. I'm looking foward to getting back on track. I may gain back a pound or two but with atkins i kinda loose weight fast

Heya Smirk. I've done that before... you know, punished myself by not eating, and working out insanely hard the next day... I just want to say the same thing as Sally and Jace. It's not healthy. It's not going to help. Sorry. It's good that you can realize that not eating anything isn't healthy, but you should also work towards that not being the first thing you think of as a way to compensate. I still am.

I'm all for the gym time, don't get me wrong, but I don't think that jumping in to 3 hrs a day is healthy either. People who know me, and my gym schedule, may find this a little strange, but I don't think you should go from 0-60 overnight. I think if you like going to the gym and everything, that the 3 hours flies by, but I think that determining you're going to do that as a punishment isn't going to be enjoyable, and is something that's going to make you not like being there... which means basically giving you another reason to not go.. or to say "I didn't cheat today, so I don't need to workout today.." or various other things.

I'm not trying to rain on your parade or anything like that, but I think starting out with saying that you're not going to eat high-carby things is better than saying you're not going to eat, and that committing yourself to an hour a day, and getting used to that routine and then moving up in time is better than jumping straight in. Just my 2 cents.

Definately do not starve urself and dont overdo the gym, I dont think you need to do 3 hours in 1 day. 3-4 gym sessions a week is plenty. Dont 4get that as you build up ur muscles they will weigh more than fat so you may not see the scales move that much but ur body will become more toned. Ur muscles will become stronger and more efficent at burning fat when u work out.
Dont let cheats get you down. I'm not saying that you should allow urself a cheat every day/week as we all know what slippery slope that leads to! Figuring out why/what lead us to cheating is the answer to making sure that we dont cheat next time. Sometimes we're caught out in situations where we didnt have/bring legal foods and had to eat foods that were higher up the OWL ladder so next time, make sure ur prepared with legal foods. TOM is also another thing why we ( well women!) may fall off the wagon, we're so used to being able to eat chocolate when that time of the month comes along and not being able to have that usual sugar fix drives us crazy!! If you get a craving for something, do something else to take ur mind off it.

I definately think that this WOE is definately a 'one day at a time' thing. Go a single day without cheating, then make sure the next day is the same and before you know it you've gone a whole month without cheating. How good do you feel? Esp if you are going to go to the gym , a month of exercise will have ur body alot more toned than what it was a month ago. Take before pics of you, post them on the board if you wish or keep them for urself. Put them on the fridge/cupboard so if you are ever tempted then you will see your 'fat pic' and ur hand should be only be reaching for legal foods.

I think I've rambled on and uve probably heard it all before but just wanted to let you know that you dont need to beat urself up about cheating. Just get back on the wagon and work ur butt off in the gym, drink loads of water and eat a legal meal.

Angelstar you hit the nail on the head. That was exactly what is was...the "time of the month"

I have a question though, does the 'sauna' thingy get rid of water weight?I never been in one and was thinking about trying it

I feel kinda sore from yesterday. I was on some kind of gym equipment where it tones your chest i think. I have to get use to the gym equipment, but i woke up pretty sore

I forgot that working out for a long time makes you gain muscle, i do alot of cardio there, maybe 3 hours is long but i also like the classes they have there too
