| Sorry to see you go. I guess if you have kidney problems now, you most likely had some kind of renal insufficiency/renal failure before starting Atkins. Did your doctor alert you to this when you got the pre-Atkins lab work Dr. Atkins insisted we all get before starting his diet? Good luck to you.

| If you do Atkins properly, in a very short time you're going to be eating more vegetables, fruits, dairy, whole grains and other things along with your protein. What are you going to be eating differently with Weight Watchers? Anyway... good luck to you. |

| It sounds as though you are looking for a reason to quit. "Too much water is bad for you".....huh? Sure.... if you consume a gallon at a time, ten times a day - you could put stress on your kidneys. That murky orange urine? Many people find that their ketones are orange in color (while others see a bright yellow).... if you're consuming enough water, it is usually diluted out. The murkiness is troubling, tho. Rather than look at the diet, you might want to have yourself checked for a UTI (urinary tract infection). That would account for the murkiness AND the kidney pain. Too much protein? How much protein - truly - were you consuming. I'll predict that you weren't consuming more than 20% over your previous intake. The only major change was the decrease in starches/sugars. The RDA recommends for weightlifters 1.7 g/kg - for me ... that would be 132 g/day. I have NEVER reached that level. The person on dialysis? Could be an urban legend (I know someone who knows someone)... or could be someone that had pre-existing conditions .... or could be someone who did not follow the diet according to the book. I'm sorry that the diet didn't work for you. Before you quit it, tho, you should re-examine your 'facts'. Don't mean to be harsh, but sometimes that's what it takes. Good luck.

| Wouldn't there be studies warning people to stop it immediately rather than the latest studies that support Dr. Atkins?

I'm not saying that Cape May Eagle has been doing Atkins improperly, but I've been around ADBB long enough to know people do some crazy, crazy, crazy versions of what they think is "Atkins". That's why I stated in my other post, if Cape May Eagle is experiencing any kidney problems now, it might be due to some underlying kidney failure he had prior to starting Atkins. That's the reason why I'm puzzled his doctor didn't tell him he had a kidney problem before he started Atkins---the blood work Dr. Atkins said we should get before starting the diet would have indicated a problem.

| Woooow Scooter! Your the man!! <{;0) Capemay Eagle.......Before joining WW (who I believe just take your money in return for telling you what you all ready know!) Why don't you go along to your GP for a general health check? It certainly sounds like you have a UTI, as said before. Do you think maybe what your mother has been telling you has just scared you off? Maybe if you try and educate your mother about what Atkins is really about she might stop the scaremongering? Anyway good luck in whatever you decide to do. Just don't be too hasty. XoXoX |

| Thanks Dream, hey listen guys, seriously..... 3 years or so ago I started this 'Atkins Diet'. I lost a quick 30 - 40 pounds. Went to a family function, a nutrionist family member told me how terrible the 'diet' was to my body. I have a nutrionist who lives across the street from me, she freaked out, she told me it's so terrible for your body. you're depriving yourself of so many minerals and nutrients that god put on this earth for us. Ok. I bought into their 'paranoia. 2 years later, fast forward, put the 40 pounds plus 35 more on top of that. 295 pounds. Doctor wanted me on blood thinners, high blood pressure medicine, enlarged heart etc. Here I am almost a year later. I've lost 75 pounds. I drink 200 ounces of water a day religiously. I eat good. I exercise. I love life. My doctor is 'tickeled to death' at the change, loves my blood work, my triglc'ds, no medications, no high blood pressure. I have read no reports of people dying because of the 'Atkin's Diet'. Yes I've heard of people ying due to kidney failure. But not this way of life. Another thing, I have heard of people developing kidney issues off living on a strictly no carb, high protein diet, that is not Atkins. You'll notice that I called this the 'Atkins Diet' earlier in this post. It is not a 'Diet', it is a plan. I look at my pictures, you can't tell me, I should be worried for the way I feel and look now. I'm sorry! Don't buy it. To me, its that old statement.... Excuse or Results, can't have both, I choose results, what do you choose? |
