Default Atkins is Healthy

This is basically a continuation of the other thread about the person who thought Atkins was unhealthy. I searched the internet for statistics of Atkins related kidney failure. Coudn't find any. I found lots of articles about Atkins and that it 'might' cause kidney failure, however these articles falsely represent the diet. There is even a website that is called Atkins Exposed, or something of that nature. What I say to people that tell me my way of eating is unhealthy for me is that how can it be unhealthy when I feel better than I ever have? What exactly is unhealthy about lots of energy, clear skin, fuller hair, better sleep, better general well being?
I really hope that this person finds her way. A doctor check up would be my recommendation. Weight Watchers does work if you commit to it. However that commitment includes ignoring hunger pangs. I succeeded on it once but when I think about about it, I was ALWAYS going to bed hungry. My fear, as Sally had pointed out earlier, is that misconceptions may be spread. There is a general fear of knowledge of this WOE. People really DONT want to know the right way to do it. They cherry pick what they want to know and then spread their 'knowledge'. It just amazes me to this day how ignorant people can be when it comes to this WOE.

I agree.I was one of those people that only saw the induction part of atkins and thought well no one can eat that way for the rest of thier lifes. But then I read the book and am now on my seventh week of atkins.I love it and glad i read the book. Before atkins i ate bad carbs and more bad carbs and then the more i ate the more i wanted.I could'nt firgure out how to break the cyle.I have tried so many things to lose weight.I did try atkins before but did not read the book.I did it becuase I heard other poeple that i knew doing it and all i heard them say they were eating was meat and cheese and eggs and green beans.SO i tried it and when I started getting the induction flu I thought this woe makes me sick so I stopped.I did not know about the induction flu then.I think this happens to so many people. They don't knowledge themselves.I hate it when people say you can't go with out no carbs for the rest of your life.WE are not!I think people forget veggies have carbs, dairy has carbs, nuts have carbs, etc. When i read the book i thought wow this is an amazing diet and there is more to atkins then meat, eggs and cheese and greenbeans.lol.I love atkins!

the "Atkins Exposed" website is the one that is always thrown at me when discussing this WOL. *sighs* it makes me weary to tell people about it...

The American Institute for Cancer Research has also evaluated the Atkins' diet and their assessment is quite alarming. They say that the high-protein, high-fat, low-carbohydrate Atkins diet tends to promote the loss of water weight, and that if such an imbalanced diet is maintained, the body soon reverts to the fasting state of ketosis, in which the body begins to break down muscle tissue instead of fat over the long term.

Ketosis is one of the body's last-ditch emergency responses; deliberately inducing ketosis can lead to muscle breakdown, nausea, dehydration, headaches, light-headedness, irritability, bad breath, and kidney problems. In pregnancy, ketosis may cause fetal abnormality or death. It can also be fatal in individuals with diabetes! While supporters of the Atkins diet concentrate so much on the fat burning capability of ketosis they neglect to mention that over the long term protein, and thus muscle, is also burned!
Here is a link for you. http://www.inch-aweigh.com/dangeratkins.html

These are some of the symptoms of ketosis I complained about, this is why I am going off. I never said the Atkins diet was unsafe or harmful, nor did I encourage anyone to stop the diet. I mearly stated that I am having some side affects from ketosis and I am going off and trying something different. I am not a doctor and I have not conducted any studies, so therefore I cannot stat that this diet can be harmful to your health, neither can you..

So if you all want to keep starting thread after thread about how safe the diet is and use me as your example, I will be happy to keep replying back. So why don't you just let it end..

CME-

Sorry you are feeling like a sacrificial lamb here. There is a happy medium, I assure you, and not all folks here are drinking the kool-aid, so to speak. I think it's fair to say that your opinion has been stated very clearly, and most of us respect that. Great for you to try something new. Perhaps not so great is continuing threads like this. I don't think that everyone here is being antagonistic with you, and perhaps you should consider that before responding again.

Kind Regards and Good Luck!

I'm *so* glad the American Institute for Cancer Research is telling me this; however, I'd like to inform them that Atkins is NOT a high-protein diet. Looks like some intern forgot to read DANDR.

I know the facts, I know the results, that's why I don't let senseless or misinformed fear assuage me and rule my actions.

umm.. I'm not trying to start anything, but ummm.. Dr. Norwood (referenced in the link above) has his own weight loss program... So him bashing another diet/WoL isn't really amazing to see. They go back and forth, Ornish, Sears, Atkins, etc... none of them are going to approve of the other person's since it's not their own.

Anyway, good luck with weight watchers, I hope that you succeed with whatever program you choose.
