Default Splenda and up 1 lb?

So ive been totally clean and strict for 3 weeks...but last night decided i wanted a little treat and used splenda for the first time. One packet with cream cheese and pumpkin. I counted the carbs and i was within my limit. Although i felt like i cheated because it was good. lol. But today noticed i went up a pound (from yesterday that was down a pound). Im wondering if it is the splenda...or just a coincidence. I know weight loss is not linear..but i just want to make sure ..is it possible that some people cant use artifical sweeteners at all? Also, today im fighting the urge to eat something else "sweet". I tend to be sensitive. SHould i just give it up for good?

Hi, ok im no expert here, but if your sensitive and it makes you crave, then i would leave it alone. Or you can find the stevia brand, which is not considered a sweetner but you can use it as one. I have always used splenda but i know if i could give it up, my weight loss would probally pick up a little faster, but it does not cause cravings with me, anything that causes cravings i would just give it up. I only use it in my coffee in the morning which is something else i have not gone without, but i have cut back and i only use 1 packet each in my cup and i have two cups every morning!!!

I agree... if it causes cravings, then ditch it, even though it might not be the cause of your 1 lb gain. That could easily be just a normal scale fluctuation. But you don't want to be fighting cravings at any time.
Splenda is the sweetner the Atkins WOE advises, but saccharin is fine too. You might not react in the same way to that. Splenda does give me very slight cravings that saccharin does not.

The sweetness from Splenda causes a some cravings for me but they're usually gone the next day. Not sure if drinking lots of water helps. Anyway, since I have to keep my use of it minimal (because too much gives me asthma), I decided I'm going to use it for very occasional rewards. Like the Veggie Challenge. Once I finish that one well, I'm going to treat myself to some dessert that includes Splenda, possibly a low-carb chocolate mousse.

Then I'll fire up two cravings: sweet AND chocolate! LOL!

It's really boiling down to control, at least for me it is.

Hey good thread - I started using Splenda about a week ago in a decaf coffee with cream on top - the ONLY sweet thing I ever have - and have been having terrible 'sweet' cravings and also nicotine cravings this week Given up smoking and not TOM)- so thin I will cut the splenda out this week and see how it goes. ( cnat be any worse than today when I tried to cure myself and ate some chocolate - which tasted toooo sweet and just made me feel sick - def not a treat! Never again!)

Yeah i thought I was just being overly paranoid so im glad to see im not the only one. I think ill ditch it. Except for maybe one more time tomorrow (its my bday). Then its gone. I want to be careful not to sabotage myself. Maybe the longer u are on the plan the better your body responds to things like this?

Ya know, I think some people are more sensitive than others to it. Splenda does NOT like me (LOL!!!!) - makes me crave and gain (well, I swear it does, anyway!!!!). I took it out of my diet, and now I am losing again. I use products like Crystal Lite withno problem though. Go figure. LOL!!!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TODAY INDYMOM !!!

I have one last bit of cream left for my coffee tonight and then I think that I will go for a week without and see if the cravings go - my son is currently munching his way through my Lindt egg - I can smell the chocolate - and it smells so lovely but after tasting it yesterday I am not even tempted - which I am really pleased about. It is actually my sons birthday tomorrow and he says he absolutely does not want a cake! so I won't do one - well there will be 5 of us - 3 can't eat it due to diet and diabetes and my son soesn't want it and hubbie just couldn't care less!! so they saved me.
