| Yikes! Maybe some dry ice in your cooler will help. Put it in and don't open unless you have too. That should keep everything very cold. The people who sell it can tell you about how long it will last. Google 'where to buy dry ice' and pick from the best choice on the list. I went there and found 9 places in my area code that sell dry ice. Good Luck! |

| Oh, I'm so sorry. Do you have any neighbors or friends that would let you store some food till you get a new one? The dry ice is a good idea...

| Oh heavens! So sorry to hear that. Reminds me of what happened to me: Went off on a trip and came back to find that the freezer had gone on the blink and everything was ruined! A huge amount of meat, fish and other stuff. I was aghast! It was still ok for the dogs though... and boy did they have a ball!

| Don't panic!!!!! I lived through Hurricane Isabel a couple of years ago, so I feel your pain! Buy ice and coolers. Pack as much of your meat into the coolers as possible. Cheese can stay out at room temperature, or slightly less without "spoiling". Cheese is already "spoiled" in a way. So you only need to keep it cool. If you have a basement or a cool area (like in front of a air conditioner vent or a fan), you can put the cheese in a bucket. Put a damp cloth over the bucket.Set that bucket into a larger container. Fill the large container with water. Let the cloth dangle into the water, so it stays constantly wet. Then set it in front of a fan. That set up is like a primative refrigerator. For your meat that has defrosted: cook it. If you like stews, now is your time to stew. Stews can be very Induction friendly: cut up meat, a chopped onion and a chopped tomato, salt and pepper and that's it. The advantage of a stew is that you can bring it to a boil, then cover it and store it in a cool place like a cold oven. Don't open it until you are ready to eat it and boil it again before you put it away. Boiling it will kill any germs and keeping it covered acts like a semi-seal to decrease the spoilage.

| I too was going to suggest you cook the meat, cooked meat keeps longer in a cooler than raw meat will. Last year we had a tornado at our cottage and while we were up there we had to live without power for a week. I lived out of a cooler mainly without issue, just having to make sure I kept up with the ice (it was july and it was melting fast). One thing i found i couldn't live without was various sizes of zip lock bags, putting everything in those stopped food from getting wet due to the water from the melting ice. good luck!
