Default Medifast Diet

Does anyone have any experience with this or know someone personally who has? I know that it has a pretty strong medical backing but I don't personally know anyone who has done it.

Snuggles,

I have no experience with MediFast, but I did take a look at their website just now and I know that there is no way it would be for me.

I'll start out by saying that it looks very similar to NutriSystem (which I do have experience with), except that while NutriSystem had lots of desserts and entrees along with bars and shakes, MediFast really has no entrees but tons of bars, shakes, oatmeals, puddings, and soups. You provide one "Lean and Green" meal a day, which consists of 5 or 7 ounces of lean meat (depending on choice of meat) and vegetables and the rest of your meals are the other stuff. The daily calories average between 800 and 1000 calories a day. (Way too low, in my opinion!) I really doubt that their shakes, bars, etc., taste much better than NutriSystem's do, and let me tell you - they suck. And I also doubt that there is any more medical backing to MediFast than there is to NutriSystem, which isn't much according to a Fortune 500 article I have seen.

It just seems like a really artificial way to live... I don't see how anyone could succeed in the long run.

You have been struggling with Atkins, haven't you? Please take this opportunity to tell us about your experience so far... tell us what seems to be tripping you up, and maybe we can help. Sorry if I have missed any posts where you have asked for help... seems like I do remember something, but my memory can be bad and I apologize if I am incorrect.

Best wishes to you.

I just looked up their web site and it looks like they want to sell you some packages. That sounds like they want to make money on you, but on the other hand, if it works for you.... why not research it a litle more? You know you always have us here if you get tired of anything else.

I tried medifast and could only stay on it for a few days which left me out of over $300. The food (if you could call it that) was HORRIBLE. Now I love love LOVE food...that's why I'm a chunky girl, but I'm telling you this wasn't food...it was cardboard. The science behind it makes sense so if you could stomach the "food" then it might just work....

I figured that I would give it a try. I have tried atkins three times now, a month at a time each, and not lost more than 2 lbs whereas by fiance has lost 20. I just think that I'm not responding well to it. I'm one of the kids that grew up on low cal food my whole life and I don't think my body likes all the full fat crap. I'm going to try Medifast, see how it goes. I'm hoping that I'll lose some good weight, at a steady pace and then rather than just going off it transition back to Atkins or something else that is maintainable. Wish me luck!

The real question is...... can you keep off whatever weight you have lost and maintain the loss for life...

At least you know Medifast isn't maintainable.

My mom did it back in the day when it was physician prescribed. She lost about 50 pounds pretty fast. However, she also lost a lot of hair and got gallstones. and those shakes were freaking gross. She gained it all back after she went back to eating normally.

This was before the 5&1 plan, my mom was just drinking the shakes. They show you how to transition back into eating normal foods. If you can follow their maintenance plan, then go for it.

It's just a ketogenic diet with calories of 800-1000 a day. Personally, I'd rather stick with Atkins, it just seems more maintainable.
