Momof3greatgirls has a spectacular aura aboutMomof3greatgirls has a spectacular aura about
Default sleep and weight loss

Hi gang.
I am wondering if some of you can help me out. Next week I start a very intese 2 week job. I will be out of town on location from the 9th thru the 21st. Work days being from 8am till about 1-2 am. Only 4-5 hours of sleep a night. How deos getting so little sleep effect weight loss? I want to keep losing those 2 weeks, and am afraid so little sleep will side rail my losing.

thanks
Amy

Hey there. Hmmm ... I don't really know about how it affects weightloss. I do know that lack of sleep can put a real strain on your body though, especially if you start resorting to those caffeine laden pills or drinks. I'm sure someone will respond to you who knows about how it will affect loss though hon. All the best to you.

I've heard that too little sleep has a negative impact on weight loss...but, having said that, take heart: I sleep far too little (like an average of four/five hours per night due to busy life, insomnia and other issues). I've never gotten used to so little and feel so much better when I can get say six hours a night, but even so, I lost weight, reached goal and have been maintaining for nearly two years without a problem.
2 weeks of less sleep won't ruin your hard work.

Default Re: sleep and weight loss

One thing to give you some encouragement is that many people report needing less sleep once they start Atkins. When you are on Induction or OWL and in ketosis, a lot of people seem to say they sleep more soundly and wake earlier. I found this happened to me and I seem satisfied with about 6-7 hours a night now, rather than 7-8 before I started Atkins. So although 4-5 hours is probably not going to be enough sleep, you may not be so tired as you would have been before and therefore I am guessing your weight loss may not be so affected either.

I hope you are able to continue your success during this time and that you will get chance to recover and sleep afterwards!

Just an update. I finished the job, was out of town for 2 weeks, and at out all the time. I was very concerned about my weight. I am very happy to report that I lost 14 pounds during those 2 weeks Yippee!!

I just read in "protein power" that heavy ketosis can cause sleeplessness as well. I think i'm experiencing that, getting about 6hrs of sleep a night and then i'm wide awake at 5am. (guess that means i don't have to waste money on the test strips, if that's what that means!)
Congrats on the Amazing 14lb weight loss!!!!
