| I think charts are mere guidelines. For my 5'7" medium build (not petite) body, the stats say I should reach for 160 or lower to be considered "healthy", 165 is still considered "overweight". But the way I figure it, when I reach 165 and feel energetic maitaining this way of eating and exercise life style, than I'm okay with being considerd mildly overweight...considering sources think 5 pounds less is best. I think it's a matter of perspective of your physical body, stature (height), build, and overall health picking the "goal" number. |

| Interesting you bring this up Greg. I was perusing several sites today and would you believe each one had a different goal weight for me? Each one had a different caloric intake as well. Use the chart as a guideline. When you feel like you look good, you're feeling good about yourself and your acomplishments, when you are happy with what the scale says then you're at goal!

| i am just below the "ideal" weight, just fringing on the border of what would put me in a moderater range. but, i have more muscle mass than i used to have, i feel better than i use to feel, i can do more than i could at 40. they are guidelines and nothing more, imho.

| Yep, guidelines only. I started out with a goal weight of 140, and as I got closer to it, I realized that it needed to be lower. So, I changed it to 135. Now, as I get closer to 135, I see that is likely I will lower it again to 130. I'll make that decision after I've lost a few more pounds. To tell you the truth, I haven't even looked on one of those charts so I don't know what it says I should weigh. I'll look for one when I have time because now I'm curious, but I will be going by what size clothes I wear and not the number on the scale. I started out at a size 22WP (woman's petites) and now I wear 12's and 10's. I want to wear about a 6. I don't know how much I will weigh then, but that is my goal weight. |

| I checked that out also (Owl). I would have to weigh 185 to be considered as ideal weight. If I weighed 185 I would look like I was sick. |

| thats exactly what I am gong to do OWL48. My "goal" as written on the board is the weight i sat comforatbly at for a few years when i was 25 - I am now 42. On many charts my ideal weight for height is a little lower than that - but i am thinking "ok - i was that weight when i was 20. have had two kids and am 22 years older than that now" -- so i will be realistic . However.. when i reach my "goal" i will reasses the situation and may find that those extra few kilos/pounds is not so unattainable after all and just "go for it" . I never thought i would even be able to lose the amount of weight that i have so far with atkins so I am sure it would definately be possible
