Question I have lost 13 lbs in 6 days

I am now on day 7,and i am really worried tho...since i heard that you should be within 10 to 20 lbs of your ideal weight loss before you go to Ongoing weight lost process. I started at 210 and now Iam at 197....how long do you think i should wait to go to rungs. Also i wanna go straight to the berries and melons rung is that ok? know people say go in order but like other people have done and been successful i hear.I know that you are usually on a rung for like 2 weeks then you go to the next one and you eat the category 3 -4 times weekly in increments of 5 grams at a time.....uhm like...what about the second week of the rung do you do the same thing? How long ,predicting ,do you think it will take to get all the weight off? I seem to be dropping lbs quickly. Is 25 lbs the first month and 10-15 lbs every month following too much to ask for? Also i exercise too. I dance.

Hello Angel,

Congrats on your initial weight loss. I cannot say much about the rungs other than I have found for me, if I don't follow the book I falter. Since berry season is almost over, I would say follow the rungs, but each person must make that decision.

As for the amount of weight you will lose each month, there is no way to predict as people on here who never cheat and exercise can have months where they lose inches, but hardly any numbers. I think you have to measure and gauge how you feel by your clothing.

You don't show your goals in your siggy so I am not sure where you hope to get, but it sounds like you are on your way!

Congrats on the weight loss!

Many people, me included, lose a ton in the first week of induction, and then not so much the second. Whatever happens in the next 8 days, y ou can count on your weight loss slowing substantially. 10-15 lbs a month is probably not realistic, though it can happen every now and then. Many people will lose maybe 2-5 lbs a month for the most part, and periodically drop 10 lbs really quickly - maybe every 6 months.

You can start OWL any time after the two weeks of induction. If you want to stay on extended induction, you can. If not, you start Ongoing Weight Loss (OWL) rung by rung. It's important that you start by increasing your veggie carbs by 5 for 2 weeks (every other day for the first week, then daily in the second) and then proceed to dairy, etc. You CAN skip a rung, but only if you do not intend to ever eat from that rung. Thus, if you plan to eat yogurt or drink milk in the future, you must do that rung before you move to berries or whatever.

I know that there are people who play around with OWL. We are by the book here on this forum, so just understand that if you don't follow the woe, you aren't doing Atkins. You're doing some other low-carb program.

As far as I recall, the only instructions on when to move to any phase of Atkins is for premaintenace (the phase after OWL) where Dr Atkins wrote
Quote:

Pre-Maintenance: Prepare for Permanent Slimness

You’re almost there! All your good work and healthy eating habits have paid off, and you now have only 5 to 10 pounds left to reach your goal weight. Give yourself a good pat on the back; you deserve it!
Having said that, I have to insert a note of caution. You may not like what follows, but it is vitally important that you hear it.

If you have been racing along the road to your destination, now is the time to put on the brakes. Much as it is tempting to say, "I can banish these last pounds in a few weeks now that I know how to do Atkins," I strongly advise you to do something that seems quite the opposite on Pre-Maintenance, the all-important third phase of Atkins. As you advance toward Lifetime Maintenance, my advice is to proceed so slowly that your weight loss is almost imperceptible. I know that this snail's pace can be excruciating when the end is in sight. But remember, getting to your goal weight is not your ultimate goal; your real goal is to maintain that magic number indefinitely.

Our focus is now different. There is little doubt you can and will reach your goal weight. The only doubt is whether you will stay at that weight for life. The purpose now is to create the optimal lifetime eating program-one that fits you so perfectly you will want to stay on it for life.

When you moved to OWL, you deliberately slowed down your weight loss by adding more carbs and more variety to your menus. Now I am going to ask you to slow things down even further. The more you learn about eating as you lose those last few pounds, the better. Your next assignment is to increase your carbohydrate consumption until you're losing less than a pound a week. The additional foods will provide increased nutrition and culinary enjoyment. Ideally, you should spend at least a month and preferably two or three in this phase.
So if you are going to move to premaintenace for the last 5-10 pounds, you need to be in OWL well before that. and the more weight you have to lose when you move to OWL the easier it is going to be to tell when your weightloss slows, which is an indication of your CCLL. Those people who wait to move to OWL till they only have a few pounds to lose often have difficulty in seeing when thheir weightloss stops as they are losing very slowly as they approach their goal weight.
