Default wine?

Where does a little wine fit in with Atkins. I read protein power a while back which ok's a small glass of wine with dinner.
I also admit I don't have the 2002 atkins book. I have 72 and one from the 90's
I bought a lovely bottle of fall foliage wine at the orchard last weekend but I'm guessing wine is an induction no no!!! How about after induction?

Thanks Emma~ I guess that lovely bottle will have 2 sit a bit. Good wine is my absolute favorite treat. If they could make it booze free it would still be a favorite.

To look up carb counts of specific wines, beer, and spirits, the USDA website comes in very handy! You would be very surprised how low some red and even white wines are.

P.S: For after Induction: if you can set fire to it, it's okay to have a bit!

When you say a berry/apple wine - that worries me a little bit. If it's a sweet wine, it can have 4g of carbs per glass or more. Is it dry or sweet?

When I sampled it at the winery it was the bite was tart with a hint of sweet. It's blackberry with a hint of apple.

For OWL, it's okay if the wine has 4 carb grams. Most people run to the hard liquors because it has almost 0 carbs so they think they can have 2 shots (3 fluid ounces at "0" carbs), rather than 5 fluid ounces of wine at 5 net carbs.....But what they don't factor in is that hard liquor has more alcohol by volume than wine. And it's the alcohol that our bodies metabolize before carbs, protein and fat.

So if Wine A has 15 grams alcohol and 4 net carbs per 5 fluid ounces, it's a better drink alcohol content-wise because your body only has to metabolize 15 grams of alcohol before tackling all the carbs, protein and fat you've eaten. But if you drink 2 shots of 80 proof vodka, it's 0 carbs, but 28 grams alcohol that will be metabolized before your body works on the carbs, protein and fat.

Also, I think that people who drink wine have a greater awareness of the carbs they take in. So they won't be eating 35 of their 35 CCLL, along with 2 or 3 "0 carb" shots of an 80 or 90 proof hard liquor.
