Default New Book by Gary Taubes

I discovered this book in the News section, but wonder if more people who might be interested in it are likely to be reading here. It's Gary Taubes, Good Calorie, Bad Calorie and it is fantastic. The science, the logic, the history of why the government, scientists, doctors, and journalists have been shoving low-fat diets (which are, of course, high carb) down the throats of the increasingly obese American public for the last 50 years. I have been reading it all weekend--it is dense, difficult reading in spots (a little like a Russian novel meets a science text) but gosh, it/s fascinating and enraging and energizing. Anyone who has doubted their committment to low-carb, anyone who has had to defend their diet to friends and relatives simply MUST read this book.

The only bad side effect is that I am simply foaming at the mouth about what I have learned here. I hope I don't explode at the next person who says "calorie" or "exercise" or "low-fat" to me.

From what I have seen of him on "Good Morning America," this guy is an amazing and very credible breath of fresh air. I fully intend on picking up his new book.

This guy is awesome. Look up his article "What If It's All Been a Big Fat Lie" online. It was in the New York Times but you can read it online now for free. It blew my mind.

I've read it too and it is a fantastic book. It's not exactly light bedtime reading, it's even heavy going in parts but the content is so utterly fascinating and at the same time shocking that it's worth every ounce of effort. And it could not but make you mad as **** about how the so-called experts have pontificated about 'facts' when in reality there were none.

I have now passed it on to a friend, but really what I'd really like to do is make it MANDATORY reading for all doctors, nutritionists and anyone who ever gives nutritional advice, and especially for anyone who is in a position which allows them to make recommendations about public health. At the very least it might make them question the conventional wisdom on nutrition and health and open their minds to the possibility that many of their incessently repeated 'facts' are utterly without foundation.

Gary Taubes was interviewed on NPR's Science Friday last week. You can read about it and actually listen to the podcast here:
