Aya has a spectacular aura aboutAya has a spectacular aura aboutAya has a spectacular aura about
Default A few epiphanies...addictions etc

I've recently discovered what people can tell you over and over again but you never learn until you work it out for yourself.
The first time I did induction, I didn't measure my food, added up my carbs very loosely just guesstimating carb counts, and could not live without my Fage Yogurt, which I had about one of per day as an afternoon snack. I also sometimes sneaked a few nuts and berries. Then I let myself move on to OWL and didn't change my diet too much. Also I'd only skimmed the book, thinking I got it. (I was losing a few pounds)
But then suddenly with this whole new world of low-carb options open to me that I'd never allowed myself to eat before (PB, nuts, fat, seeds, cheese!) plus eating out far too loosely (not getting dressing separate or having the sauce with a meat) the scale began betraying me and going in the opposite direction. Still didn't really get what was going on. Come a few weeks ago when I started overdoing the nuts, cheeses and yummy things, I realised I needed to go back onto induction. Reread the book (have it by my bed) and started measuring out my food and adding up carbs. Oy! 20 carbs added up quickly! To cut a long story...er, sorry it's already too long to be short, but anyway, I gave up my yogurt with a sob, put away the nuts and PB the two weeks and began. Turns out I think the yogurt and nuts were serious trigger foods for me. Too good so made me want more and more. I was addicted. Now that I don't eat them, I don't want them. And I feel so much better.
I guess my point is, if there is one, is that it can take a while to get into the swing of things and you sometimes only realise the obvious when you go back to basics. And people can tell you stuff a million times and you sometimes only get it when it whacks you between the eyes.
Sorry for the diatribe, just felt like getting it off my chest! Thanks for listening

Nuts are my trigger too... I love them.. But I've decided that a size six will be more fun than a fist full of macadamias...

I've been at this for over two years, and I know I can never add back tree nuts, peanuts/peanut butter and will have to strictly limit cheese. It's just the way it is. I cannot have those things in the house and not over-consume them. I would rather be thin and healthy again. I have to make a choice. It's up to me. As someone said--I can have excuses or I can have results, but I can't have both. I'm even done feeling sorry for myself--most of the time.

I can't do the cheese either ........... I love it but even when I have a little it makes me lose nothing!

Now that you know what to avoid you will see wonderful results! It's all a learning process ..........

Now that you mention it, I never used to eat cheese before Atkins so no wonder it's thrown me for a loop! Took me this long to work it out, thanks to your posts! What would you all eat for an afternoon snack or quick power-booster if not some cheese or nuts?

I make up devilled eggs and have those for an afternoon snack. Also some meat from last nights dinner (usually chicken).

You know how apparently excess protein converts to glucose? I've been a bit nervous of that and have tried to keep meat, fish and eggs to mealtimes... But thanks for the ideas, will make up some devilled eggs and try them!

I don't snack often, but I also do deviled eggs or just boiled eggs with a smear of mayo. They both really fill me up. Pieces of turkey or chicken dipped in a mix of mayo & dijon mustard is also good. Too much protein will be converted to glucose. Fat is your friend.

We were posting at the same time. That's why I keep the protein portions small and fill up with the added fat (mayo).

Oh boy!

Your story is very much like my own.

Thank you for sharing. It's reminded me of the importance of the program.
