| Not at all!! You're very wise and I love the way you say things!! ... even when I 'think' I know what I want to say it comes out wrong... you've got a way with words! Cleo was another memeber who had a way with words but sadly she's no longer here... but now we have you.

Hoping, keep up the good fight. A couple of times I did eat things that were not legal this last weekend, desperate to make my stomach feel better, but I had very small portions and then got right back on the wagon. (This was not me macking out on chips and cake - but eating gentle stuff to ease the tummy pain (clam chowder for instance).) Since then I have just about lived on sugar free custard. I think it's coming out of my ears at this point. There are some comforting legal things, and hot tea really, really helps, especially with heavy cream in it. Maybe chicken soup with protein powder dumplings? Do what you need to do to feel better, but make sure it's truly to make you feel better, not as an excuse to get silly, and try to find things that aren't too far off course. Hope you feel better soon! |

| i am struggling this week with you girls. The kids were kind enough to bring home the germs for strep throat, but ofcourse I am the only one that acturally got it. So far I am fine doing without homey foods, but I am going over my splenda allowance cause I am having like 4 cups of tea a day and I add 1 teaspoon splenda and lemon to my tea. I am trying to keep up eating like normal and my water. I stopped exeriscing this week. All was going fairly good. I was losing still and working through it. Then bam last night the coach of my daughters soccer team was sick and needed me to feel in. During practice, it felt good to be out running and playing with the kids. This morning however I am so sore and achy and stuffed up. It feels like I got sick all over again. Which I probally did cause I have problems with allegies. Oooh well I plan to suck it up and go on. Sometimes its just hard being the mom. Just once I would like to be sick and get to stay in bed. Today I have to go shopping for the team. Saturday we have 2 soccer games and Sunday the oldest has 2 softball games. Sorry to rant on and on....

| Great post. Eat what your body NEEDS to heal itself and you'll feel better alot sooner. I am talking about typical Atkins foods/no alleged "comfort foods" (what an oxymoron...what's comfortable about feeling like crap?) Lots of water, veggies, lean meats, that's what we were designed to eat, whether well or sick!! We can't isolate ourselves from germs, unfortunately, but we sure as heck can fight them with the nutritional arsenal Dr. Atkins taught us to eat!!! I am one of those people whose pointers have shifted .. yeah, it took me a few years, but as of today, I haven't had a cold in over 4 years, despite the fact that my daughter and husband have had several colds during that period. I love to run (like I have to tell ya.. GOTTA LOVE ATKINS! Betty

| What about soooooooup? I usually have a couple of cartons of broth on hand (low sodium of course). I also like to buy deli chickens and cut them up and keep them in the freezer for emergencies. Take some broth, some chicken, add some legal veggies and voila! Comfort food. For a little extra protein you can swirl an egg into the boiling soup (like egg drop soup). My MIL makes noodles out of eggs. Mix up your eggs and cook in a thin layer in a pan (like a crepe). When it's cooked cut it into strips and add it to your soup. If you like it more creamy add some heavy cream and puree it (not with egg strips in it though). It's tough to think about stuff like this when you feel crappy, I know. It's much easier to open a can of something. But now I'm thinking I should go make some soup to keep in the freezer, just in case. Cold and flu season is coming....I hope you're feeling better today Tish.

| Titian - boy I wish I could remember the name of the famous vitamin C researcher right now... I'll have to go look it up again. Anyway, the guy who was reknowned for his research and knowledge of vitamin C scolded the FDA for its totally inappropriate recommendation for that vitamin. I think it's like 75mg a day. The researcher took 18,000mg a day or something like that! When I first read about him, I was using echinacea to combat colds and flus - it was highly necessary because I run extremely high fevers (105 is not uncommon). I could not afford to even get a cold. Echinacea works well if you're not popping it all the time and if you really pound it the second you start feeling like you're catching something. But it wasn't fool proof. I switched to vitamin C tabs - 1000mg a piece. I still don't take them regularly, but whenever I sense a bug beginning to take hold in my system, I take 4000mg four times a day with tons of water. Never have a gotten sick since. The plus side of this is that vitamin C is not toxic in large amounts (water soluable) and it's also a core vitamin for maintaining the elasticity of your skin... for peple losing weight, this is important to help your skin tighten up along the way! I'm trying now to be more diligent about taking it every day for that reason alone. I don't want droopy skin :-/ but it certainly does its part to kill cold and flu bugs in their tracks. You might want to try that approach. Ester C is apparently a better choice than normal C. Better absorption I think it was, but do your research to know for sure.
