Hi friends, I know very well that, the best way to lose weight is to only eat when hungry and then to stop when start to feel full. But the problem with me that I always have a hungriness in me, and I don’t even feel full after eating 12 burger or 2 pizza. Is it a disease or there are other people like me are also present in this world?

Default Re: Appetite

I think there are lots of us who have this problem... me included. I never know when I'm full until ages (like an hour and a half) after I've eaten.

I log my foods religiously, and maintain that way... while trying to train my appetite awareness by stopping when I know by experience that I've had enough, and concentrating on how I feel after around 20 mins (Dr Atkins advises 20 mins as a usual time for the satiated feeling to set in).

Slowly, I'm winning, but it takes time and patience.

Maybe 20 mins will be enough for you, and you can then decide whether to eat a little more or stop.

oh boy.....the ultimate chain reaction of "eating begets more eating", a trap that i have fallen victim to many times. yes, it seems impossible to turn this around sometimes. you just have to remind yourself that its ok to be hungry and really......its ok to go to bed hungry. in any event, should you limit your carbs and sty on this atkins plan........hunger wont even be an issue, as you can eat whenever you wish

good luck....i am pulling for you!!!!

Default Re: Appetite

When I am not following Atkins I am hungry all the time. The more I eat, the more I want, until I feel awful. It is different when I follow Atkins exactly. Then I find satisfaction with a normal amount of food.

I don't think it is a disease, it is carb addiction. I am a carb addict and always will be, but I know how to control it now.

It's possible that you are thirsty. The hunger and thirst sections of the brain are right next to each other. Many of us confuse hunger with thirst. Do you drink lots of water before and while you eat?

I see this is your first post to ADBB, so Welcome! Yes, it's very common for the "appestat" gauge in us to be sort of broken. I find it helps some just to slow down when I'm eating. Peoples' relationship with food can be emotional, for one thing: the term "comfort food" wasn't invented for nothing!

If you're not yet familiar with Atkins or lowcarb, one of the things about it is that once the body gets ionto a fat-burning "lipolysis" or "ketosis" mode, the appetite decreases in a surprising manner.

A trick someone told me long ago. Put the fork down between each mouthful. make sure you have chewed and swallowed what's in your mouth before ever lifting your fork again.

That is a great suggestion, chicklady

I noticed when I started induction that I was guilty of piling up the next forkful before I had even chewed the first mouthful

Savouring each bite instead of wolfing it down quickly is another way I found to start to recognise when I have eaten enough.
