Default Gerolsteiner Mineral Water and Leg Cramps

Like a lot of us, I get painful leg cramps.

Increasing your potassium seems to be solution to curing the leg cramp problem.

I've starting drinking a German Mineral Water called Gerolsteiner.

The Marketing of this water, is that it has a very high naturally occurring Mineral content.

(It is Mineral Water, after all)

Since starting Atkins, I've had to stop drinking Soda. Full sugar Coca Cola to be exact.

I been trying lots of different bottled mineral waters, in order to "find my brand".

The Potassium content of Gerolsteiner is sky high, compared to the other mineral waters that I've been drinking.

A noticeable result has been after drinking Gerolsteiner, that within the past 2 weeks, I've not had any leg cramps at all.

At a slight attempt at journalistic credibility, I've researched some of the other mineral waters that I've drank since starting Atkins.

They are:

San Pellegrino from Italy.
Tasting Notes: Light carbonation. Slight flowery taste.

Calcium (Ca++) 208 mg/l
Magnesium (Mg++) 55.9 mg/l
Sodium (Na+) 43.6 mg/l
Potassium (K+) 2.7 mg/l

Perrier from France.
My favourite water. Crisp and refreshing with a real bite to it. Love the strong carbonation. The lime version is the best.

Calcium (Ca++) 147.3 mg/l
Magnesium (Mg++) 3.4 mg/l
Sodium (Na+) 9 mg/l
Potassium (K+) 0.6 mg/l

Crystal Geyser Water from USA.
Nice, but boring. Is a good choice if I'm really really thirsty, as I can really guzzle this water. I can also enjoy this water if it's at room temperature.

Calcium (Ca++) 12 mg/l
Magnesium (Mg++) 3.1 mg/l
Sodium (Na+) 130 mg/l
Potassium (K+) 8.7 mg/l

Evian from France.
Another choice if I'm really thirsty. Slightly nicer taste than Crystal Geyser. Not much fun to drink unless it's chilled.
Evian is the odd-one-out, because it's a still water.

Calcium (Ca++) 78 mg/l
Magnesium (Mg++) 24 mg/l
Sodium (Na+) 5 mg/l
Potassium (K+) 1 mg/l

Last, our boy wonder. Gerolsteiner!
This water has a slight smell of sulphur when you open the bottle. The bubbles are huge, but I'd say it has a medium carbonation, if compared to Perrier. Worried about the high sodium level.

Gerolsteiner Sprudel from Germany.

Calcium (Ca++) 348 mg/l
Magnesium (Mg++) 108 mg/l
Sodium (Na+) 118 mg/l
Potassium (K+) 10.8 mg/l

Hey, I've been drinking Evian and didn't know. That's great. (I got it 'cause it said it was from France and I support global warming)

I will say I've never had leg cramps with Atkins, but I've always drank Evian so maybe that is why.

Neat info.

It is. Firefly was a TV series from few years ago, they made a movie called Serenity for theaters which broke even.

I love it for this WOL 'cause there are 9 people on the ship, each one strong and important, and they are all shaped different. Maybe you are like the mechanic who enjoys a cheeseburger, the girl next door? The second in command who can kick butt? Do you see yourself as the sexy turn-guys head type? And they can all overlap, the second in command can be sexy, and the turn-guys head type can seem very girl next door ish.

Everytime I look at my sig I think it doesn't matter what my final physical form turns out to be (I don't know as I've been overweight for so long) Whatever it is, there is always a place you belong as long as you are healthy.

< back on topic...And about the water, I only drink one of those a day, I couldn't afford to buy 11-15 bottles a day. How many do you drink in a day?

Interesting.

I have just start a bit torrent download of Firefly Series 1, so I can understand more what you're talking about.

Back on topic.

I have a job, and a salary that gives me, some considerable disposable income. So the cost, is not really a problem.

However your question was how many do I drink.

I drink a about 2 bottles of Perrier a day, plus about 2 bottles of Evian or recently Gerolsteiner. That makes about 2.5, or 3 litres of water a day. In total that costs me 1000 Japanese Yen a day. Which is about USD$9.

I was spending about the same, maybe a little less in drinking full sugar Coca Cola, each day.

Plus, I'm losing weight, so it's money well spent, as far as I see.

What do you drink as your main supply of fluids?

That is a really really good point, I use to drink that much money in soda everyday.

I drink between 200 and 250 oz of water from the tap and water fountain and two 8 oz cups of decaf green mint tea a day.

I'm going to have to check out the crystal geyser water because I always drink my water at room temp, so that sounds really good.

You'll enjoy that crystal geyser water. It's got a lot of bubbles, and is a nice replacement for Coca Cola. The Potassium content is bonus too.
