| No, when I switched to Atkins my heartburn stopped all together. Does it happen all the time or just after certain foods? |

| me too, no more heartburn since im lowcarbing but then again i dont eat all too fatty either these days. i know a lot of ppl who get it from fatty food though (i got it from chocolate, sugar and the likes), so in your case it might really be the diet being too fatty.

| For 8 year before I started Atkins. CassiesMom. I think you need to see a doctor. May not be acid reflux.

| I had acid reflux before I started Atkins but expected it to go away after I started. Needless to say it didn't. I take Prilosec everyday, one a day first thing in the morning. It works wonders, I don't get heartburn at all anymore. I know that it is sold over the counter now, so you don't need a prescription. I think it costs about 20 dollars, but my doc wrote me a prescription and that way it is only a 10 dollar copay. It takes about 2 or 3 days for it to start working. I've tried to stop the med a couple times, for a week at a time, but the indigestion comes back. Hopefully this helps. Brian

| Thank you for the replies! I hope it isn't anything serious. My hubby has been getting it too, just not as bad as me, so I figured it was all the meats. I went to the store late last night because I was so uncomfortable and got something over the counter and felt relief. To many darn pepperonis I guess |

| Pre-Atkins I had acid reflux SO bad I spent many a night sleeping while sitting up. Laying down was simply not possible. It was one of the first things I noticed Atkins "fixing". After about a week there was no more heartburn, no more headaches, and for my husband, no more IBS. When I feel like eating pizza or cake, it's the memory of those nights in pain that keeps me from eating them just as much as not wanting to gain the weight back. I seriously doubt it has anything to do with meats, most people don't really eat that much more meat on Atkins then they did before. I know we didn't, we just replaced things like a steak and potatoes with a steak and green beans. Or a burger and fries with a bunless burger and a salad. Unless you were vegetarians before and your system is in complete shock right now (not a bad thing IMHO), I would imagine it's something more serious, and would recommend seeing your doctor.

| What kind of meats have you been eating? I know chicken settles better in my stomach than say beef/steak. Are you eating rich veggies that may trigger acid reflux? If it is acid reflux than it's something you're eating, especially if you're just now getting it. Play around with your menu to see which foods settle best in your stomach and don't give you acid reflux. |
