Default after a brief misstep, the scale finally moved!!!

hi everyone... you may remember me as the donut girl. after three weeks of sticking to atkins and not getting the results i had hoped for, i ate a chocolate donut in frustration.

i started atkins one month ago at 278 lbs. after the first week of induction i was down 6lbs. then after finishing the second week, i was still only down 6 lbs. after a 3rd week, i still hadn't dropped anymore weight. i was stuck at 272. i was angry and frustrated. this is where the donut came in.

all of you gave me a lot of encouragement and advice.

because i want to be honest with all of you, i will admit that at first, i was so frustrated, and i went off the diet for a few days. i kept exercising, but i pretty much ate "whatever". it was bad. on superbowl sunday last week, i pigged out on chips, cookies, and pizza. i gained 2 lbs. i felt bloated. i felt tired. exercising was harder. i realized this was NOT how i wanted to feel. if nothing else, i figured, cutting the carbs made me FEEL better. so even if the weight loss was slower than i had hoped, maybe i should give it more of a try.

on monday, i went back on induction. i have cut down on cheese (will sprinkle it on something here or there, but not eating it everyday) as that was one thing i think was making me stall before - i was eating more of it than allowed without really realizing it.

i feel great, i'm excercising every day, drinking tons of water... and today i got on the scale and was down to 268. i'm not going to weight myself again until i'm done with induction. and i'm not going to get frustrated this time around. weight loss is not linear, i keep repeating that to myself.

besides, i've lost 10 lbs in about a month. that is good. maybe not as good as the somewhat unrealistic goals i had in mind, but good nonetheless.

it IS working. i CAN do this. i just need to work at it. and I WILL.

thank you all for your suggestions and support. i just wanted to give you an update on where i was! i am off to the gym...

You did it!! And you did it in your terms! That's what I love about Atkins-I feel like I am still in control of what I eat. There are certain things off limits but many other diets that I have tried made me feel resentful and as a result irritated. I may miss sugar - or rather I miss the habit of sugar. I would not give up how I feel now for anything. Life is good. Congrats on your success!!

Angelcakes, we are in the same boat, you just didn't know I was with you!!!! I do remember your post. I have been stuck (even went up a couple of pounds) for 3 1/2 weeks. I was frustrated like you, and when I get that way, I don't post. I do lots and lots of reading. That was when I saw your original post. I want you to know how reassurring it was to know that I wasn't alone. Things had been going along so well (lost 16.5 pounds on induction) and then blammo, the scale stopped and would not budge. I read a moderator's post on Post Induction Stall Syndrome and figured it must be happening to me. If there's a bone in the chicken soup pot, it will always land in my bowl!!! I was down 1.5 pounds yesterday and another 1.5 today. I have done nothing different from the last three weeks. If anything, I didn't have enough water yesterday. Whatever. I sure hope this episode is over and the loss continues. If not, I am going to power through it.
So, Angelcakes, you are a better woman than I am! I have learned from you that I need to post even when things aren't rosy and perfect. It just might help someone else! Thanks so much!! Looking forward to sailing on together.

I can pretty much tell you even the most seasoned of the "losers" here on the boards didn't perhaps do it right the first time around. It is a lot of information at first but you need to make it a priorty and once you do, it becomes a lot eaiser. I use fitday.com to log my food, exercise and journal a bit and it was very tedious at first putting in the foods I ate, creating custom foods but now that I have it set up, it is a breeze and I love it.

I also joined an exercise challenge and that has made me accountable for doing something at least 5/7 days but now I find I want to swim every single day! This time, my second time around, I didn't try to over do it at the exercise. You can't compare yourself to others, you have to do what you can do. I thought I never could exercise for an hour in a day! I would die! Well, I read an article about breaking it up and I can do 15 minutes of something. I can walk for a 1/2 mile at 2 mph (15 minutes) at least twice a day. Now, I can swim for an hour, I do 1,000 yards. Once I get used to that, I am going to start adding in some weight training and yoga. Here is a site where they have free mini workouts to get you started. http://exercisetv.tv/studio/miniworkouts/

Good luck and don't give up. When I feel like cheating, I pee on a ketostick and know that the purple I see and the fat loss is represents will go away for a few days if I eat that bad thing. Is it worth it? Well, I can answer that. It hasn't ever been to me.
