Default Am I doing this right???

Hi, I'm a newb. I have been on a low-cal diet for about a year now, and have been pretty successful losing 70 pounds. My problem is that I have started a new job that is sitting constantly, and I am not burning nearly the amount of calories. I am also getting intense hunger cravings. I am a 22 year old former football player that still has about 50 pounds to lose. I had a buddy in college that lost weight with "Atkins". I just started it this week. I am on my third day of "induction". The first two days a typical day was this:

Breakfast: Scrambled Eggs(4) w/ sausage and cheese
Lunch: McD's Double Cheeseburger-bun(2) pork rinds
Dinner: Scrambled Eggs(6) w/ sausage and cheese

I have been drinking a lot of water. Is this going to work? I am really nervous because I don't wanna put the weight I have already lost back on because of this diet. I work out religiously, and I am training for a minimarathon in May. I have bought chicken and better meats. Please help reassure me! Haven't put any weight on, but haven't lost any either. I am kind of freaking out!

Thanks

Yes, veggies are mandatory on Atkins. Have you read the book? Also I would watch the cheese amounts and also some sausage has weird ingredients in it.

You need to pick up a copy of the Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution 2002 edition and read it. Study it. Love it. It will tell you what food are allowed and how to do this WOL. In the meantime I encourage you to check out the info in the induction forum and read the stickies. It will give you some starting tools on how to do this WOE right.

I am happy to hear about the excercise - thats hard for a lot of people to start on!

I second that!

And add in some veggies! The best part of veggies on Atkins is that you can cook them in butter or olive oil! Yum! Sausages can have bread and other carby fillers mixed with the meat and no matter what you order there McDonalds is not the best food for you! There are so many varied and wonderful foods you can have on Atkins- don't feel like you have to have scrambled eggs twice a day! The many different foods you should be having are healthy, fresh and not processed.

Really you should get the book, though. Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution (or DANDR) has everything you need in it, don't try to do Atkins without DANDR. For now this board will help but it is no substitute for reading the book. I did "Atkins" a few years ago without the book and lost weight but I quit after three months and it turns out I wasn't so much doing Atkins as I was doing my very own version of Atkins. This time I've read the book and I'm actually doing it right, I feel so much better about it and it is working even better for me.

Welcome to ADBB and congratulations on your amazing loss so far! You have proven that you have the dedication and commitment needed to change your WOL. Good luck!

Default Re: Am I doing this right???

I am just going to state a few things:

-On induction, we only get 3 oz of cheese a day.
-Yes, yes, get the book. You will appreciate the chemistry of the diet.
-You need to eat the veggies, it is a must. Two cups of salad veggies and one cup of other approved veggies a day or 3 cups of salad veggies a day.
-You want to shoot for 65% fat, 30% protein, and 5% carbs. You can track this at www.fitday.com
-Congratulations on your weight loss so far! Good job!!
-I agree about the additives in sausage and processed meats. Beware.

Until you can get your copy of the book, be sure to read as much as you can on the site. The stickies will help you. You can also join in challenges and that will help you stay focused. It is proven this board has magical powers. The more time you spend here, the better you do.

I agree, the book is a must and this board is an invaluable resource. I dont know if I would have been able to get through it without this board (the last time before my pregnancy).

Definately gotta get some veggies in, read the book and youll understand why. Its not enough to eat the right foods for this diet, you need to understand WHY this diet works and why your eating those foods and not the high carb ones.

To adress your fears about this diet not working and you gaining what you have lost back, let me say that you, being formerly on a low cal kind of diet will see tremendous success on this kind of diet which switches your body from burning carbs for fuel to fat for energy instead.

Those who have sedentary jobs and are on low cal but high carb diets will actually gain weight instead of losing usually because carbs that arent used in the body right away are stored as fat. This way of eating also is the ONLY THING that has ever curbed my cravings. I am a food addict mainly carbs and sugar. No matter what kind of diet I did I could never control the cravings before atkins. Atkins has litterally let me get control over this addiction in my life. Sure, I will always be a food addict so I can never go back to eating junk and sugar again but I dont have to let it control my life anymore.

Check out the book. We here go by the New atkins Diet revolution 2002 edition (just so there is no confusion.)

Read, the book, stick to the plan, do a "clean" induction with no sweeteners or cheats, move on to OWL after the 2 week induction and you will drop that 50 in NO TIME!!!!

I lost 50 lbs last time in 4 months!!!!!!
