| A few years ago I was in the hospital for a week with a kidney infection (one kidney actually shut down) and I too was on cipro. I totally know what you are going through...it was the most painful experience in my life. I was so sick! Cipro will take some time to work. I took it for several weeks. Make sure you get lots of rest and drink lots of water. I know its hard to look on the bright side but be glad they caught it! My Doctor said the infection can spread to your heart, lungs, and blood and it can be fatal if not treated in time. Cipro is your friend right now! |

| So sorry to hear about your infection. A while back I kept getting a kidney infection over and over for a period of almost two years. I was put on the cipro which would clear it up, but it kept coming back. I had ultra sounds and xrays to look for stones but they could not find anything. Eventually I had a special xray where they inject some kind of dye into you and guess what, the tiniest of stones showed up right in my kidney. I actually had an operation to remove it because this had been going on far too long and I was getting quite ill and could not eat. Everyone gave me a very hard time about the Atkins diet because they all (wrongly) thought that is what had caused this. My husband paid for me to see a Harley St. specialist and he said there was absolutely no connection between the diet and getting kidney stones. Basically my kidneys were of the shape where calcium could easily collect and stones could form quickly. Apparently this is very common in Turkish people, although I have no Turkish connections. Anyway, going on a bit here, but if you get any recurrences then I would strongly recommend having an ultrasound to check it out. In the meantime, I really hope you get better as I know exactly how you feel - terrible. Good luck. |
