Exclamation Benihana restaurant menu, carb friendly?

Going to Benihana hibachi grill for my cousins bacholorette party. What do you think is low carb friendly? Has anyone eaten here? Do you think there are hidden sugar in the sauces? Here is a link to their menu Benihana
Thanks!

Thumbs up Re: Benihana restaurant menu, carb friendly?

Hello Cherri,
Gosh, it all looked so yummy. A rule of thumb of mine is to stay away from all sauces. I also ask them to hold the MSG on all dishes. They like to add it to the veggie dishes. As you know, MSG is nothing but beet juice, pure sugar.
Don't be afraid to ask questions regarding the content of their dishes when eating out. Especially about the S word, SUGAR. Also, You may want to ask them to hold the corn starch which they may use as a thickener.
Hope that helps.
The salman wrap W/ veggies looks good.
Sherri

MMMM I'd go with the Cordon Blue. Neither the tenderloin, nor the lobster need anything but an appetite

They cook in front of you too. Right so you can basically tell them ( in the middle of the "egg roll" joke ) not to add any sauces.

BTW how do you all feel about adding a little soy sauce to something. How many carbs can be in a little soy sauce?

Benihana was alright, was lo carb friendly as long as your order carefully... Yes they did cook on the hibachi grill right in front of us which was helpful. They also verbalize each ingredient before they put it in so it's easy to tell them to hold something or avoid sauces. Before I went, I emailed the company about ingredients and here is the reply....

"We use mainly Safflower oil, non-salt butter, salt, pepper, ketchup, soy sauce, mustard, vinegar, beef, chicken, shrimp, scallops, lobster, vegetables (zucchini, onions, scallions, mushrooms), sesame seeds and rice for entrées.

We do not add MSG on any of our food or sauces we serve, except our Japanese Onion Soup which soup base contains MSG.

However our sauces may contain MSG or similar chemical compounds that is not disclosed on the label of some of the ingredients for the sauces since the amount is insignificant for the manufacturer to disclose.

We use sugar and corn starch on some sauces and food items. Please ask the management when you specify the item you select. They will tell you the information you require."
