| Andrea...There are a few buddies on this list that are going to do extended induction. So far just Monie and I moving on and now Splandrea. I am an advocate for climbing the rungs so I try to let people know that moving up to the first rung isn't too scary as it is just 5 more carb grams...8 BBQs asparagus spears...more. LOL!

| Ooooo...asparagus..yum! You are right Elsie. I think I will move up 1 rung in about a week. I have read so many times that people who stayed on induction for a long time didnt lose as much as people who move up accordingly. So here goes. I will being moving on shortly. Oh and what do you guys think about swiss cheese? |

| Good for you Andrea. Read the stickies in the OWL forum and if you have any questions post them here and we will see if we can all learn something. My DD (10)LOVES asparagus and will eat a 1/2 pound all to herself if allowed. She is not going to be happy to be sharing! Swiss cheese....well I just bought some on Tuesday but haven't opened it yet. It is on the legal list. There are some quiche recipes that use it. Why do you ask?

| Any suggestions on how to curb my appetite when it comes to cheese and alcohol. I probably can give up cheese faster than I can give up drinking in the summer. Just the facts. |

| Hmmm..first I would say to do a clean induction. So no alcohol. Sorry. Eat your cheese with something else...for instance your salad. Make sure you are getting your 2 cups of salad veggies (notice I didn't just say salad..that is right...you don't need to have 2 cups of lettuce...it is 2 cups of salad veggies...so have dip some cucumbers and mushrooms. And a bit of cheese. Also you need to have other cup of veggies as well. This will help with fiber and controlling your appetite. You are only on day 2. By the end of the week or so your appetite will diminish and that should help too. Alcohol...fruits...dairy....summer...SIGH...why didn't I start in the spring!! A really really good reason to climb the rungs and not stay on induction. When you drink your body stops burning fat until it has burned off the alcohol. Is that a good reason not to drink? If you do...and I am not recommending it...read up on the alcohol part in DANDR...it will tell you what is acceptable. I still say commit to a clean 2 week induction or you really aren't being fair to yourself or doing Atkins. Drinking now could have a dramatic affect on the weight you drop your first 2 weeks. The rungs are put in sort of a gycemic order I think. Things that will have the lowest impact on our body for us to try first. To help us learn and give us a better chance of success. I think some have juggled the 2,3 and 4 rungs around with moderate success but I don't think it is recommeded to jump to the 5 rung. In the meantime...give yourself a stern talking too...tell yourself that you are more important than a drink...pour yourself some seltzer water or some club soda put a lime in it and pretend you are drinking a barcardi and soda with lime. No one is saying not to drink for forever...just for now. One day at a time.....just tell yourself....nah...not going to drink at this gathering today...maybe next time. And next time...tell yourself the same thing. And before you think I am blowing smoke....I had to cap 30 bottles of wine the beginning of my second week of induction....I am telling myself it gets better with age...LOL!

| hey everyone, looks like everyone is doing really well. Well i have done Atkins one and off since november/07 and lost some and gained some, so here i am back again hoping to get it right. I never went thru the rungs properly and i plan on trying it this time, i dont think atkins works right unless u do so bc u then realise u can eat for life when u gradually reintroduce "everyday " foods and hopefully less likely to fall off the wagon..... but then again what do i know i never got pass rung 1 ??

| Well...I agree with you Tasha...the rungs play an important part in keeping the weight off. There is a lot of knowledge to learn on the rungs. The last 10 pounds are supposed to be taken off very slowly and we are to have already gone through all the rungs and foods by then. That takes time. The journey isn't about losing it fast...it is about learning to keep it off. (my profound quoteable of the day..LOL) Anyone (almost) can lose weight..we have all done it...lost it...gained it...lost it again and gained it again. See...easy....none of us have learned to keep it off. That is why we are here. You will do it this time. And now you have buddies to help you. Okay...gotta go...pet day at school and then DD's violin lessons in the next town. Can't wait to read all the emails when I get back. Bill's eyes are going to pop out of his head when he finally gets on! We are on page 3 and 30 posts already!! I think I am going to like living here after all...a fine piece of real estate!!
