Default Let them believe what they want

Obviously they conducted this research without seeing the success of the people here and others who are in lifetime maintenance and are living proof of the health benefits.

I can honestly tell them that a carbohydrate calorie is 1 billion times more detrimental to me than a fat calorie.....I guess I'm an oddball LOL.

People lose weight on low fat diets all the time. The difference is that they are eating processed food that tastes like crap and are probably miserable whereas we are eating delicious and healthy natural food and creating a WOE to last a lifetime. For me the choice is simple and I couldn't be happier.

I believe that anybody can lose weight on any diet. The beauty of Atkins is that we do it in a healthy way, we don't starve ourselves, and the food we eat is very tasty. Seriously... who wants to eat low-fat ranch that tastes disgusting when full-fat will get you the same results if not more!?

Um, I just read the linked article and it doesn't appear to say anything negative regarding low carb dieting. What it does say is that trans fats and processed sugar and flour are bad, which is no surprise to those of us on this WOE. It further claims that whole, natural fods are your best choice, and while those of choosing Atkin's may have to wait until later stages of the diet, we are welcome to eat any natural food that does not cause problems for us. I don't think Dr Atkins would have had any problems with this article.

Ding Ding Ding! That's it Scarlet, this is exactly what I was thinking as I read this. Processed foods, and well sugars (carbs).....just don't work for some people. I guess when I read this, I was thinking that they were insinuating that anyone can lose weight by choosing either way. I've tried the other way and it doesn't work for me. I kinda got a generalized "pick one and you'll do fine" LOL.

I think Gary Taubes site that particular researcher (Willett) several time in his articles and book as proof and support for low carb eating. He conducted that Harvard "nurses study" which suggest low carbing is effective way to lose weight.

I also thought it was good that he points out there are really bad carbs and on the other hand that there are good fats.
To me it looks like Willett may have a bit of problem with saturated fat though (be we don't) And he thinks that low carbing works because low carbers eat lower calories. But we tend to think that there is a little bit more to it.
