hey guys!!! it's been a really bad day for me since i last posted today. i have a broken heart, and broken spirit right now. we got the one call from the vet that we never really expected. the tooth abcess was actually a tumor, and the vet told us that there was nothing they could do for our DBH. we had to have her put down. we raced to the vet to be with her and say goodbye, then brought her home and layed her to rest underneath our apple tree next to our other basset hound(her life mate that we lost 18 months ago). DH and i feel like we are just dreaming and can't seem to wake up. we raised her from a pup, and she truly was our baby. we have no kids, so we made our pets our children. now that they are both gone, i already feel the empty nest syndrome setting in. everywhere we look, is something to remind us of her. the hardest part was when we left to go to the grocery store and was returning home, i burst into tears when i realized that it was the first time we would come home and she wouldn't be on the couch watching us come through the door. <<fast forward a couple hours later>> as i was beginning to type this post DH had gone to bed with a headache, but got up 20 mins or so later not being able to sleep. so we went out to our living room, and kinda came full circle in our mourning process. we had basically cried all day, but still in kind of a shock. hadn't really talked to each other about how we felt or even much about Bella(DBH). well, we proceeded for almost 2 hrs talking about how todays events unfolded, what our expectations of the day had been, and our memories of Bella and also ones with her and our other basset JD. he's now gone back to bed, but we both are glad that we took the time to relive the life we spent with 2 beautiful hounds. we've been married 17 years and the last 12 1/2 in some way has always revolved around our pets. we know that it's gonna take some time to adjust, but feel that we were so blessed to have been loved for doing so little to make them happy. i know that this post is a true downer, but as i began it, i was feeling so alone. i am so glad that i have you guys to share with. i'm also so glad that DH couldn't sleep and decided to share his feelings with me. it was a big step in beginning our healing process together. i know there will still be difficult days to come, but we have atleast put things into perspective now and know that things will get easier with time. we see this as a new beginning for us, and decided someday, when we are ready, we will start searching the basset hound rescue in our area for one that needs the love and attention that they deserve.

Morning Buds - I took a sneak peek weigh-in a day early and it looks like I'm going to be up a couple of pounds this week (hmm, I wonder why?). On the plus side, I did get 4 miles in this week. I joined this list to hold me accountable, so here's what I'm going to do. From now on I'm going to post my number of cheat free and diet coke free days with each post. If you see that number going down - you're free to call me out! Hope everybody has a good weekend. cheat free days: 1 diet coke free days: 1 Last edited by 2MuchMike; July 26th, 2008 at 08:05 AM.

Thanks everyone who welcomed me ![]() Today is Day 2 of my Induction and so far so good. Yesterday I only got up to about 10 carbs of vegetables/cheese. I will be doing more vegetables today when we go grociery shopping. I did try and get more water in me--I've been known to avoid water. I felt a bit off just eating meat and cheese. I went to the movies with my husband last night to see Batman the Dark Knight and it was hard to sit in a theater filled with people eating popcorn and candy and drinking sodas. I held myself back and made it through the whole show! I'm happy with that. This morning I woke up with a migraine--which I have suffered since I was about 10--so I didn't feel that great. I managed to make scrambled eggs with bacon and sprinkle cheddar cheese on them. I drank 16 ounces of water this morning too. Our plans today are to get out of the house and do some sight seeing since we don't usually get this much family time. I hope to have two salads today and boost those veggie carbs up! Talk to you all soon!
