| Chalk this up as a learning experience. Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Vietamese food typically contain sauces or marinades that have some kind of sweetener. It makes sense because these cuisines like the combination of sweet, salty, sour and bitter in their foods. So if you order out, ask for absolutely no sauces and no marinades.

| Consider this: What if you hadn't recognized that taste? And you went home and ended the day as usual thinking that you did well for eating out......You lose weight next week and carry on with your clean induction.... you would have never thought, "oh no I only lost 3 lbs this week compared to the 4 I should have lost if I never had the bean sprouts" -- there's no way of knowing how much more you would have lost.... I don't know if you get what I'm trying to say, something along the lines of "what you don't know won't hurt you"...I mean, in this case it can, but it wasn't a huge deliberate cheat on your part, I mean, not even a cheat considering you weren't aware at the time...... So my point is, please don't beat yourself up over this. Don't even think about it anymore, you are doing fantastic and have already accomplished so much that one little, unintentional mishap should not be enough to bring you down! Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and keep going full speed like you have been. You're doing GREAT! |

| Pink it depends how much sugar is in the sauces. Remember these sauces have to be pretty strong because they need to flavor relatively bland foods (like bean sprouts, tofu, etc.) So they use enough sugar to balance the salt to balance the sour to balance the bitter. Moreover, some cuisines have "master sauces" which are further doctored with spices and condiments and sugar in order to give it a different taste. So be VERY aware. And just ask for plain steammed food, no sauce no marinades, no cornstarch, rice starch or flour, or flour.

| It's not just Asian cuisine. Applebee's puts sugar on their steak and in ALL their veggies.
