I mean, not to boast or anything, but I do have a degree in the English language. I've read that part in the book (written in my 2002 English translation version) at least a dozen times and I understand what it means. And I mean no offense to anyone in any other language....I love languages, its my livelyhood . I'm just pointing out ahead of time that I am capable of reading and comprehending what I read---writing on the other hand, well, that's another degree later (I hope...lol).

I even made sure I understood what non negotiable means once before. I'm a lexicon nerd, I can't help it sometimes. Non-negotiable, basically you don't get to negotiate (or decide, debate) whether or not you choose to exercise or not while following this plan. It's plainly written right there in the book---exercise is non negotiable. And Dr. A goes on to say that if you're not exercising, you're not following Atkins.

Okay, so we're supposed to follow Induction to a "T"---two weeks, that's all it takes (we can go longer if we need to). Dr. A spelled out the whole plan in the book and why it works to add the rungs in one at a time. And he made sure to make a point in two places in the book that exercise is ESSENTIAL to losing weight successfully on Atkins.

And yet, I'm a little concerned why there's post that say "you don't need to exercise" or that someone admittedly (thank you for being honest, really. I appreciate it and hope we can help change that) that they don't exercise.

So, please forgive me, but I have one question that I really need answered because it's really frustrating to read post that say "you don't need to exercise" or " I don't exercise and I'm losing weight":

Where did readers and Atkins followers get that it is okay not to exercise while following this plan?

Thanks ahead of time answering my question because I'm just so darn confused about that. I mean, I could write a post 10 pages long why anyone should exercise and why we are required to exercise and what exactly exercise could consist of---but I'll save that for my dissertation for my Masters Degree
There are people who don't exercise and still lose weight.

You are correct that you probably won't have to jump right into heavy duty exercise in the first couple of weeks, especially if you have not been doing anything at all. BUT, you should be doing some light stuff, like walking slowly and building up to more vigorous exercise every day of induction. It will help you get toxins out of your body and will give you more energy just from the deep breathing and increased circulation you experience. If you do some light exercise during the first few days, you will burn off the stored glycogen and will enter ketosis even faster. Then you will get the promised energy spurt. The exercise comes first, followed by excess energy.

Sunny!

Nag nag Nag I must admit, if I had not found this board, I would be one of the ones watching workout videos....and finding it exhausting!! But, fortunately the good doctor knew that some of us would never go for formal exercise. Mind you, I've tried. I actually enjoy the jumprope, although it near kills me whenever I play with it, and my "workout" with the hula hoop is more like a comedy routine. But exercise bikes and treadmills....it seems like a lot of work to go nowhere!! But I have found outdoor stuff I like to do in addition to the gardening I've always enjoyed. Just like the good doctor said....find something you enjoy so you will actually do it!

Yes, ma'am! I was even thinking about skipping out on exercise today, but I thought I better practice what "I" preach and so I went and did 60 minutes of exercise after my earlier post. The 20/24 challenge got me going again! You are such a sweet drill sergeant!

Yep, you're absolutely right. I was one of them and was a skinny fat person. I lost weight, lost muscle and looked yucky. If that doesn't bother you, than yeah, go for it. You can totally lose weight on Atkins (or any WOL) and not have to exercise. I wouldn't recommend it though, the results are less than stellar (at least in my experience) My overall health is more important to me than just seeing a number on the scale.
Best to you!

you can lose but you can also look saggy. and you can lose lean tissue instead of all fat. The choice is yours of course, but exercise will help you lose the actual fat. And it feels so darn good!

As of yet, I choose not to exercise. Slow, steady losses almost every single week. So me motto is If it aint broke then dont fix it. Perhaps if I stall or something then i will begin, but for now I'll continue to monitor me food intake. God Bless, Joe

Maybe some people pay more attention to the scale, I firmly believe in paying more attention to how I actually look.

To put it in perspective... my first ever time with Atkins I got down to 145/150 and was wearing size 12/14 - without exercise... Currently I weigh 207 and wear a size 12/14 (I was wearing 10/12 at 175).. while it's from a different company, and a few years later, let's think about that now shall we?

Don't you ever wonder how much you would have lost by now if you were exercising? I'm female and didn't start out as high as you, but I lost 48 pounds in the first three months. I didn't have to monitor food intake except carbs. I ate like a queen!
