Default Havarti Cheese

Is there another name for this cheese? I can't find it in the food databases (US or Canada!!)

Default Re: Havarti Cheese

I don't know of any different name, but I love havarti. That is a 'treat cheese' for me.

I would think carb wise it would be similar to other softer cheeses like muenster. Pretty positive it has less salt than muenster, but the carbs should be reasonably similar.

My package says 90 calories per ounce and 1 gram of carbs (it's got the legally necessary info on it) As I track my nutrients, I was searching for all the other nutrients that may be in it.
It is an awesome cheese, sin't it?
What is tilsit?

I eat havarti alot! Maybe up to 3 slices a day sometimes. I love to take it and melt it on a hamburger and then take my 2 Tbls of salsa and mix well with cream cheese and put that on top. It gives it a sweet tang flavor that curbs my cravings nicely. As for Carbs. well it says 0 for 2 ounces so the most it could have in it would be 8 carbs per pound right? Because if it is .5 or less they don't have to list it. So, if it is .5 the most it could be would be 8 carbs a pound, am I right?

Tilsit havarti has an *EXTREMELY* strong taste, but I love it. My Grandfather was Danish, so regular havarti and this variety were *always* part of lunch when I visited his house.

More info on the Tilsit variety here: Tilsit Havarti from Denmark

Ohhhh I have to try that! I go in moods/swings when it comes to cheese, but I like all sorts, including limburger

SueSue....that sounds right! One thing that I like about the european food info, is that they go by 100 grams....something like 3.3 ounces....no hiding numbers that way.
