Question What is the deal with artificial sweeteners!?

I started Atkins about 5 days ago, haven't weighed myself yet, but I feel as though it is working. I guess I just "feel" skinnier . But I was wondering, why are artificial sweeteners so bad to eat on the plan?? The label says it has no carbs, so I am interested to know exactly why artificial sweeteners can make us Gain weight....(because I really dont want to give them up)thanks for the help!!

Here is part of the reason.

Addicted to Sweets? The Cephalic Phase Insulin Response

You are allowed 3 a day, so you don't have to give them up completly. Make it to maintenance and I am sure you can have more!

Splenda and Stevia are among the few acceptable artificial sweetners Dr A recommends. Remember to limit yourself to 3 a day. For some people they have stall them and then the next person seems to be able to tolerate them. I like to recommend doing induction without them and then after the 2 weeks reintroduce them if you want so you can find out how they affect you.

The first time I did Atkins, I never gave up my Diet Coke. I did everything else by the book, but couldn't give that up. I still lost 80-85 lbs. Now, for other people that will stall their weight loss, but for me it didn't.

I use Splenda in my chocolate mousse and my tea. No problem!
