=)) Started reading, but stopped here:

Quote:
For the first two weeks, dieters eat only 20g of net carbohydrates - carbohydrates minus protein - made up of foods such as seeds and berries.
So if I eat only -75 net carbs per day, will this affect my weight loss?

"For the first time, Atkins has an exercise recommendation."

Obviously, they didn't read the book I'm reading.

Oh, and at the very end...."Atkins had heart disease and was clinically obese."

That was news to me, too.

Steak and hashbrowns for lunch?!?!

That artcile is the most disgraceful thing I've seen the Atkin's name slapped on!! And I thought their bars and shakes were the worst it could get!

I hope the good doctor is still at peace.. I know I'd be rolling AND busting out of my grave!!!

i liked this part: "The All-New Atkins Advantage diet is said to offer the same weight loss as the old programme - without the health worries." i thought there were no health worries in the first place?

You know - its both angering me and making me sad. I mean HOW can people be so ignorant? Especially about a diet that has been around for more than 20 years? After all the people who have succeeded on it - getting rid of diabetes, heart problems, cholesterol issues etc - STILL you see mistruths and BS like this in the news.

I was looking at the Atkins website and their Day Break break bars and muffins. They say "2 grams net carbs" for the Apple Crisp bar "Total Carbohydrates: 15g Dietary Fiber - 8g, Sugars - 1g, Sugar Alcohols - 1g"

Can somebody tell me HOW that adds up to 2 grams of net carbs????

It adds up to 2g net carbs cause thats how they market their product.. LOL

And people can't take the time to do re-search anymore. Especially when the truth is non-marketable.

Besides, if the co-author is a rep of Atkins Nutritionals, that goes to show that they are more looking to have more people do the diet and buy their stuff if they make it more appealing - bread, hashbrowns, etc. and FOR SURE aren't doing the good doctor's research and good intentions any justice, but actually a dis-service by kind of smearing his name in high-carbohydrate muck.

"When thin enough, it's time for the 'life maintenance phase', in which WHITE BREAD, sandwiches and desserts can be introduced with about 120g of carbs a day."

white bread? are they crazy?

"Carina Norris, a dietician registered with the British Nutrition foundation, said: 'Ketosis is not the normal way the body burns fat and we don't yet fully understand what it can do to you.' "

Umm isnt there a reason our body stores fat? Umm maybe to use it later? lol
Ketosis is a built in survival tool for our body, i am pretty sure it is meant to be used.

"But a new study of 293 dieters has found the original Atkins Diet was safe and effective - but no better than conventional diets"

Actually it was proven to be the most effective. People were found to lose the most weight and had the largest improvement in high blood presure and cholesterol.

The part about atkins being overweight was the kicker. I never saw a single picture or interview where he was overweight, seems slender to me.

Did this person actually do any research before they wrote this article?

Wow. That article was ridiculous! I'm at my absolute healthiest when I stay on track with Atkins, confused about their no more worry about health concerns. And the fact that it finally has an excercise recommendation, wow. Guess they didn't read up on how excercise is non-negotiable.

I agree with you all - the writer of the article has no idea of what Atkins really has always been about.

I wonder how many more comments people like us are posting there - When I looked at it yesterday and posted my own responses there were only 2 comments shown and now there are many more from UK readers - and mine havent yet appeared.

Must be giving their moderator a lot of work reading them all before authorising them! The paper must be delighted at all the traffic their website is attracting.
