| Watch those bars...some say 'low carb' then have more carbs than you're supposed to eat all day! My friend, a 10+ year Atkins veteran (who is a grandma with a HIGH SCHOOL FIGURE!) turned me on to the "recipes" section of this site and there are some fantastic things you can make to get you through those moments. Of course, you also want to make yourself stop and think "what do I REALLY want right now?" because, in my case at least, it's food I'm craving to 'fill up' a void where I really feel insecure, bored, unappreciated, etc. Hang in there! |

| I have found a few things that will satisfy my sweet tooth- sugar free jello with fresh whipped heavy cream(splenda to sweeten it), SF pudding mixed with heavy cream instead of milk makes a great mousse type desert, the revolution rolls made with splenda and cinnamon make a great sweet breakfast when topped with butter. Most of those are free or extremely low foods so that is a defiante help to me since I kind really feed my craving with them! HTH! |

| Hello RC It's best to tame the sweet cravings with L-Glutamine. You're allowed 3000 mg a day. Dr. Atkins explains about it on page 136 DANDR. Also, make sure to read the ingrediants. There may be ingrediants that are not allowed during Induction as in soy or nuts. It's been my experience that by having sweet cravings, that you'll possibly be feeding a sweet addiction. It's best to leave those empty calories alone. Tame the sweet beast within and take some L-Glutamine. It totally works! Sincerely, Sherri

| I know the sugar free jello deal really works for me. I have just a half of a cup at the end of my evening as my reward of sorts.

| Mock danish, got me through the sweet cravings. Recipe in the recipe section. You can make different flavors with DaVinci or Torani flavored sf syrups. Something else that works great for me 2 ounces cream cheese softened, and maple flavor sf pancake syrup, stir it up and you have a great sf snack warm, creamy and sweet.

| Can you tell me more about the L-Glutamine? Do you take it in the morning or evening and does it really help with cravings? I know that I am an addict and as one, having 'just a tiny bit' is not a good plan. I ordered by book off Amazon TWO weeks ago and it still hasn't arrived. Ugh. In the meantime, maybe I can run to Walgreens.... |

| Here's the deal with L-Glutamine. Take L-glutamine (not glutamic acid). to help control "irresisable" cravings for sweets. Begin with 1 200mg capsul or tablet(I take gel capsule form) three times a day for one week. Then INCREASE the dose to 2 capsuls or tablets three times a day for one week. After two weeks, if you feel more alert, more inergetic, and have lost your craving for sweets, you can then experiment with the amount of L-glutamine you take until you find the best level for you. This is how L-Glutamine works- Through nutritional magic and by the use of L-glutamine, a form of glumatic acid which the brain consumes for energy, we can feed the brain and quiet its craving for sweets. Because L-glutamine can cross the brain barrier easily, and the brain can take it and quickly convert it into glumatic acid, if you take L-glutamine in supplemental form the brain will be able to satisfy its hunger more easily. Glumatic acid serves primarily as a fuel for the brain's operation and as a buffer against excess amonia. The relationship of glumatic acid to glucose (blood sugar) goes beyond the brain-fuel interrelationship. Since the brain can store only a small amount of glucose, it is very dependent on the second-to-second supply of blood sugar which may explain dizziness and other nervous symptoms that accompany hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). The grey matter in the brain converts glumatic acid to a special compound that helps regulate brain cell activity. Thus, a shortage of L-glutamine in the diet, and of glumatic acid in the brain, can result in brain damage due to excess ammonia or a brain that cannot get into "high gear." The stress of the dieting can lead some people who are not nessesarily fond of alcohol to drink a lot more than usual in an effort to control the stress level they feel. Also, since alcohol is metabolized very quickly, it is converted to brain fuel, and during your diet your brain can feel hungry and ask for a drink. If you answer it's request and continue to do so you can do more than just wreck your diet program. Dr. Roger Williams, along with his colleagues at Clayton Foundation for Research at the University of Texas, made the vital discovery that not only did L-glutamine protect against poisonous effects of alcohol, it also controlled or stopped completely the craving for it. L-glutamine is a versitile amino acid that can contribute to your diet program if, on your way to your best weight level, you suffer from any of these problems described. L-Glutamine is an excellent supplement to curb the cravings for sweetness and alcohol. Sherri
