Default Passing a "milestone" of sorts

When I first started induction a month ago, my first thoughts weren't about the meat and veggies and eggs I would be able to eat, and the variety of ways I could prepare them, but "how will I do without bread and desserts?" Sad but true. For the first 2-3 weeks, I struggled through trying new things, like cauliflower "potato pancakes," and whipped cream with a bit of splenda-based drink mix to flavor it and make it sweet.

Tomorrow will mark one month on induction, and while I've made a few mistakes here and there, the last few days I've discovered that 99% of my cravings for sweets and breads are gone. GONE!!! Not just "I can deal with not having any" to "I don't WANT any!!" I've tried Atkins before - but never got this feeling of a lack of wanting sweets. Yesterday Mom I went to my Mom's favorite bakery with her. She got herself some brownies, sausage rolls, and french bread. A month and a half ago, I'd have scarfed down 3-4 brownies without even batting an eye. I didn't even want any. I talked to one of the bakers there who has become a good friend and asked what the filling in the sausage rolls contained and if there was any sugar/syrups etc. Turns out they grind their own meat and mix their own sausage, and there was nothing verboten, so I cut away all the pastry filling from one of the rolls and happily ate the sausage filling and it was delicious! Never in my life would I have thought I'd pass up a brownie for the filing in a sausage roll!

I'm more interested in *savory* tastes, my veggies, different meats, and my cheesecake. That's it. I'm happy with that! I adore Cleo's oopsie rolls and I actually now think they taste BETTER than bread! I'm also finding I pay more attention to flavors... I used to slater everything with cream sauces, butter, and lots of salt. Now I want to taste my veggies, I want my meat to be flavorful, not just "in there" so that I get some protein.

There are so many amazing recipes that I've come across that make this WOE so easy to follow. Tonight I'm going to saute up some prawns in olive oil and garlic and have it with zoodles - things like this would never even have occured to me as being worth trying, but thinking back on it not only does it sound delicious but its so *healthy*!!!

When I started out, I couldn't help but think "Okay, just get down to 150lbs and then you can start eating normally again - you don't HAVE to eat like this for the rest of your life" and now I'm thinking "Why would I WANT to go back to that way of eating???"

I also just want to thank everybody for their support - even if you don't know me, you have given me your support just by letting me read/share your experiences/insights/information. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Hey, Neecy, great post! It is wonderful to realize.. we didn't just change something outside, we changed something inside. And to find ourselves stronger mentally as well as physically!

I have so much more mental clarity this way, you sound the same. Let's just keep on keepin' on!

great job reaching that VERY important milestone, Neecy. You're reached what I like to call "half the battle".

HEy Neecy!

Isn't it awesome not being a slave to the cravings... I can totally relate... I don't need sugar at all. Nor Flour, nor rice, nor pasta,nor........ the list goes on.... I thought I would never be able to live without those things... I was so wrong.

My trips to the grocery store take me to the produce isle and the meat coolers... then to the check out... AND I am spending way less...

COngrats on your milestone!

Kath
