| Extended induction is identical to induction, it just goes past the 14 days. The rules are the same. Now to the sweetener question: cyclamates are allowed according to Dr. Atkins. Still, you are only allowed three servings of sweeteners per day and you have to count carbs if it is a powder. Reason being that the maltodextrin and dextrose they use as a bulking agent has carbs. The only true carb free artificial sweetener is liquid, like Sweetzfree (liquid Splenda) or liquid stevia. But the rules still say only three servings a day as a way to break the sweet addiction. So it is still up to you to decide which is most important in your situation. Drinking water is important, so if you can't drink water any other way... I thank my lucky stars that I have always loved water. I drink at least 128 ounces a day. I like sour, too, so when I add lemon juice to water I don't use any sweetener.

| I'm not worried about "sweet" addicitons - I've weaned myself off that almost completely with the exception of some liquid sugar-twin in my morning egg creams, or pourable splenda in the cheesecake I bake. I don't *crave* sweets (I'd rather have some veggies with dip or a oopsie sandwich with lots of mayo) but my problem is - with only 3 sweeteners/day allowed - technically I'd use one with my egg cream, leaving 2 for the day, and to get enough water, I need to drink four of my water-bottles full. Maybe I'll try cutting back to just 1/2 of a drink packet so it lasts for 2 bottles just so I can get a taste of something there. |
