The Forces of Evil a.k.a The Corn Syrup Lobby

Today I was reading the New York Times, and there was a full-page ad PROMOTING High-Fructose Corn Syrup, yes you read that correctly. Apparently, the corn lobby is not happy enough with their ridiculous Ethanol subsidies, but they are also afraid that the growing consensus of the deleterious effects of sugar and corn-syrup in particular might hurt their bottom line! Am I the only one who views this as an unmitigated outrage? Let's be very clear, if you are pro high fructose corn syrup, then you are pro diabetes, pro obesity, pro heart disease, AND PRO DEATH. Mind you, this has nothing to do with being pro-farmer, imagine if we provided soybean subsidies instead of corn price supports! And I will be the first to admit I love an ear of fresh corn on the cob with butter from the local farmers market as an occasional vegetable supplement, but this is out of control.

There is also 2 commercials on tv now promoting HFCS. They try to make it sound like just because it is made of corn it is safe to consume.

I saw that. I saw the commercial with the Popsicle. I looked at my husband and thought I can't believe them. It's not that HFSC is not harmful in low doses as this stupid commercial said but HFCS is in just about EVERYTHING you don't cook yourself. Gross!

Made me think of the story of Adam and Eve, here she is tempting her boyfriend with that popsicle, don't do it!!!
