My letter to Atkins Nutritionals

I just sent the following:

To Whom it May Concern,

I am extremely saddened and disappointed with the direction that your company has been taking. You are dragging Dr Atkins good name through the mud in the name of money and popularity, sacrificing the work he did to help make people happier and healthier. Dr Atkins would never approve of all the "frankenfoods," shakes, bars, and WHITE BREAD you are now advocating as part of a "healthy" lifestyle. Bars and shakes on Induction?? White bread??? Low fat?? What universe do you live in?

Dr Atkins successfully helped thousands of people break free from the clutches of being overweight, diabetes, high blood pressure and the side effects that a high-carb diet inflicts on so many of us. It is alarming to see the way you have changed his low-carb lifestyle, into something more akin to South Beach or Weight Watchers, all in the name of profits. The good Doctor is probably spinning in his grave.

You want to really HELP people? Focus on what he teaches in the 2002 version of his book! The focus was on eating HEALTHY, not filling our bodies with refined, pre-made garbage. Healthy fats. Vegetables, Meats. Exercise. THIS is what the success of the Atkins way of life depends on, not the pseudo-diet your company is now pushing on consumers.

I can only hope you listen to the feedback you have been getting (we low-carber's stick together and believe me, we know what is ending up in your mailbox from us!) and you start thinking about people's health with your hearts, and not your pooketbooks.

White bread? Eww....I got an email inviting me to help influence 1 million people to lose weight on Atkins. I hope to influence people, but not with their current 'sweet sexy science!'

Great letter, but they'll never listen. There is no profit motivation (thus no Corporation) to recommend that we all shop at our local farmer's market, and buy fresh cuts of meat.
