Default FAST FOOD, friend or foe, jk

well I know we all cook immaculate organic local fresh gourmet cuisine 3 meals a day 7 days a week on this WOE ,
but what about those rare times you're on the run, low on cash, and need to (gasp) patronize a fast food joint, what are you favorite lo-carb options at the popular places if any?

my guilty options
BK quad stacker ( toss the bun, dig in, already comes with no ketchup )

BK grill chicken salad w/ ranch ( only 2 carbs for the dressing, maybe 4 or 5 for the lettuce at MOST ) comes with croutons on the side, TOSS, and sometimes carrotts, but you can eat around those

SUBWAY salad bowls, need i say more? tons of veggie choices, load it up with chicken, bacon, and high fat low carb dressing

come on dieters help me out, any more options out there?

I did the BK whopper without the bun. They serve it in a tray so I wasn't even tempted by the bun. I left off the cheese (probably not realy anyway). The quad stacker is my daughter's (19yo) favorite thing at BK. And of course the baconator at Wendy's is great! To me Hardees has great burgers. LOTS of meat on them and a great taste too.
Enjoy!

I usually do any grilled chicken sandwich with no bun or a hamburger from Wendy's or BK with no bun. And a side salad with ranch if the restaurant's version is low carb. If not, I put my own on.

When i have fast food i usually just go to mcdonalds and get either a double cheeseburger and scrape off most of the cheese and toss the bun or i get a big and tasty no cheese and toss the bun. Sometimes i go to hardees and get the lo carb burger with no cheese no ketchup and add bacon.

My Fav...

Wendy's Jr. Bacon Cheese Burger, hold the tomato and Bun, they put it in a nice tray for you. Also, their Ceasar Side Salad, has low carb dressing.

Depending on where i am, one supermarket in particular does rotisseried chicken. It can be bought whole, they also do portion's. Sausages, stuffed pork belly and spare rib's can also be had.
Reasonably priced aswell.
I'll go for some of that if the rest of the family fancy a McD's or BK.

I'm feeling a bit peckish now!...........right, where did i leave my car key's

Actually, I do. I grow most of my food organically and what I can't grow, I get locally from the Farmer's Market or straight from the farm.

It helps that I am in the middle of writing a low carb/whole foods cookbook and I have to cook every day to test recipes. I've never eaten so well.

Almost all restaurant food has hidden carbs. The house sirloin, grilled veggies and roasted asparagus from Applebee's all have sugar, even the steak. That was my last meal at a restaurant. I went from over-full to wanting to eat everything in the house in 30 minutes.

I have learned to be ready for any time I will have to be away from the house and have easy foods to stick in a small cooler to go. If all else fails, I keep a bag of pork rinds and a small package of nuts in my trunk.

Sunny!

I agree with Sunny. (and how lucky that you live in an area like that. We have Farmers market from the end of June until September and that's it ) I use to get the roasted chicken salad at Subway. Then I went on the website and looked up the ingredients. Yuck. To top it off, they don't even have regular dressing. Non fat only unless I wanted oil and venigar.
When I did fast food before Atkins I always used the bun and the sauces to hide the taste of the meat. I can't even imagine what that beef tastes like dry I try to be prepared when I know I'm going to be out a while but I understand that's not always possible so I guess you got to do what you got to do.

Hardee's makes the best fast food burger (100% Angus sirloin) without a doubt, but you'll pay for the quality! If I'm short on cash, I favor the Ultimate Bacon Cheeseburger (plain) from Jack in the Box. They give you a pretty good chunk of meat for around $3.50. The bacon may seem like a rip-off for an extra $.50, but it helps minimize the amount of cheese that sticks the underside of the bun -- I love my cheese!

Of course, I will agree with those above that say that fast food can be a bad deal. If the sugar isn't a problem, then the sodium content usually is! I try to rely on fast food no more than once every couple of weeks.
