Petra Star is on a distinguished road
Default Raw Beef vs. Cooked Beef?

Before I became a STAC-er, I used to really enjoy a nice, thick extremely rare steak. London broil was my favourite as fillet mignon is out of my price range. I would "cook" it by just searing all sides on a very hot surface for about 20 seconds each to kill off any contaminants that might be lurking on the surface, but the middle would still be refridgerator-cold and the vast majority of the meat would be way past red, into the purple hues.

My questions are:

1. Is there any difference, nutritionally speaking, between eating your beef well done, medium, or "was still mooing just a moment ago"?

2. Are there any other raw meat lovers out there who love to get in touch with your inner caveman? I can't be the only one...

Thanks,
~Petra~

Hey Petra... YOU ARE NOT ALONE! I love a blue steak. I actually prefer to eat beef over any other meat because I think it is the only one that is safe to eat rare. I eat alot of red meat.
I just bought beef tenderloin roast when it was on sale, I slice it into thick steak slices an pan fried it in alot of butter and olive oil.

I doubt that there are any nutritional benefits. EXCEPT that because we are not cooking it so long the food is more alive. I considered the raw diet while researching diets and there is a vein of RAW foodists who eat raw meat... beef and fish... and they believe that are getting benefits from meat that has not been cooked, allowing our bodies to take in more ALIVE nutrients.

I also feel I can digest rare meat better than overcooked meat. I crave it.
I often wonder about my ancestors and where and how they ate and if their diets are imprinted on my genetic code!
I am thinking about trying buffalo meat... Maybe I am more cavewoman than I know!

I guess I am lucky.. there is a REAL buffalo farm just up the road from my little town here. HONEST TO GOODNESS!!!!

I will let you know how it tastes!

I will hate to eat buffalo really... they are way cuter than cows... and I have a hard time with cows too cause I think they are pretty cute themselves... I just try not to think about it...
