I'll be honest. For me it depends on my mind set. I started Atkins in May, lost weight, went on vacation June 21st, and just started atkins again a week ago. It took me 3 months to get on the wagon. Weekends are tough for me, but come the next day, I am right back on. So again, it totally depends on mind set. When you're in the right frame of mind the food tastes good, you don't miss carbs and sugar. In the bad frame of mind, it's too much fat, you miss the sugar and carbs, bla bla bla.

You have to really want to do to this. If you do, then getting back on is very easy. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!

I totally agree! When you're truly ready and committed, it becomes an adventure, not an ordeal. Feeling and looking better are way more rewarding than anything "forbidden" I can stuff in my craw and feel bad about afterwards.

Make sure to check in with this board often ... the support and information are so helpful!

I hear you.
I ordered non-breaded chicken wings and soda from the local pizza place. Well, they brought REGULAR Pepsi instead of Diet.

Had I been stronger I would've refused... but I cave and just drank it. And that one drink lead to a couple more days of sugary stuff. It truly was like a relapse for me... that soda triggered something and I just went crazy.

This happened after I made a post about how I drink diet soda and it doesn't affect me negatively... but it put things into perspective because if I had completely cut out the stuff, that mishap wouldn't have happened.

I'm not gonna tell you if it's difficult or not because you already know the answer. But here are some tips that might help you stay on track...
  • Think why you want to lose weight. Looking better is not a reason in my opinion. You have to go deeper than that. Why do you want to look good? Once you figure this out, make a list, copy it several times and stick it everywhere in the house from your fridge to the wall facing the bathroom seat. Keeping one in your wallet also helps if you eat out a lot - you'll see it every time you pay for your meals.
  • Take a full-body picture of you. Not a nice one, but one in which you look so miserable that it makes you Keep it with you. Stick it to the fridge, on your computer screen, wherever you see it often.
  • PLAN! Before you go out shopping, think what you are going to eat in the next days. Then make a list with the foods you need. This way you won't be strolling along aisles full of doritos, pasta, sweets, etc. because you don't need them. If they are not on the list, YOU DON'T NEED THEM!
  • Before you go out for lunch/dinner, check the menu online and decide what you are going to order. In case you are tempted to choose something bad, this will give you more time to realize that you are sabotaging yourself.
  • Concentrate on your progress. Weight and measurements are classic, but think about the other advantages of following this WOE - health, self confidence, energy, etc.
  • Exercise! This will not only make you avoid a "deflated elephant" look once you lose the extra pounds, but it will also make you feel stronger and it will boost your self esteem.
  • Visit this board often! Even if you cheated one day, come back here and look for some inspiration that will put you back on the wagon. What's done is done and the best you can do is move on in the right direction.
  • There is this idiotic misconception that trying to lose weight is shameful and superficial, and therefore it should be a tabu. There is an even more idiotic one, that says Atkins is unhealthy. Read the book and understand why Atkins works and why it is not gonna put you in the grave. Then ignore the "weightloss" tabu and tell people you are following Atkins. If someone tells you that Atkins , you'll be informed enough to stand your ground. But beside this, letting others know you're doing Atkins will help you stay on track in the long run. Your parents or friends will not prepare pasta or mexican food for dinner, and your friends won't push you to have a drink or a scoop of ice cream. If they do so, I would question their friendship.
I hope this doesn't sound too harsh. I'm just trying to talk straight to you.

Compared to other diets or WOEs, this one is quite permissive. If you don't like a food you can always find a substitute, and the best of all - you're not hungry! With a bit of focusing and planning, I'm sure you can achieve your goals!
