| Food labels are NOT very scientific. The objective is their making money, not our education. They can round out fractions to the nearest number, legally, (on per serving measurements), often to their advantage both in label cost and marketability. For instance, les ink & space to write 0g than .49g, plus if 0 sells more, they can shrink the serving size to make it happen. So, 0g carbs per 1/2 oz serving could really be about 1g per ounce. Alas, there will always be some real differences, too in a particular food, because the tested samples may not be exactly the same. |

| I use Dailyplate.com. It matches things more often... don't know whether that's good or bad considering what Boonie said tho.

| Nothing against DANDR, either... but the carb counter in the back is pretty rough. I'd suggest it is wrong on at least chili peppers, and certainly way too general; better to have info on specific varieties, brands, recipes, and portion sizes.

| Thanks for the input. Given what was said here I think I'll use the Fitday counts except for the things that aren't on there...like a beef sausage I use that has no fillers or sugars in it. It's a local product and nothing compares to it on Fitday. I'm going to have a look at the daily plate too. Cathy

| I've been using FitDay for three years & its great. I've found that merely coming in at fewer calories than allowed makes up for any discrepancy between actual caloric measurements of labels vs. database. I use the food label for things that I purchase a lot. I use the FitDay database for some foods which are too long to input ingredients. I'm in the induction phase, though, & now I'm entering some food labels with a modification based upon the "net carb" count. i.e. An Atkins bar might state on the front "2 net carbs" where on its reverse sided label, it listed the Government version of 20 carbs. So, I enter the "2 carbs" into FitDay rather than the label version. It doesn't change anything that the software calculates overall except for the carb counts that I can see. |
