| Last winter I stayed on induction forever. It was a mistake, I should have moved to OWL faster. Did you read this sticky? http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...-i-go-owl.html

Despite all your good intentions, you're mightily tempted by a food you're not supposed to have. What to do? I'll tell you this: You'd better have a strategy ready!" | Thanks! (I just read it). I guess since I have more than 70lbs to lose, then it doesn't hurt to do more induction. Or maybe I'll do induction but allow myself to eat a few nuts and fruit. I think once I can fit nuts and fruit into my diet, then I'll be very happy! I'm all for not eating pasta and bread for a WHILE. I had TOO much of an addiction to breads/pastas/fries, etc. |

| I usually do extended induction, it's easier for me to have the strict guidelines and not mess around with things. I will admit that I have stayed on waaaay too long in the past and had problems trying to adjust to OWL, but that's *months* into, not a few weeks, and I did notice a drop when I added more carbs to my life after doing this.

| To get to fruits, you have to climb to rung 4 at least (for berries). Once you add foods from OWL, you are not in induction anymore. About my never-ending induction... Last winter I did it from (around) Dec 20th until Feb 10th. So that's for about 7 weeks. With 25 lbs to lose, the only thing extended induction did was to stall me. The weight began going down again only after I moved to OWL. Rung 1 was then easy, because it's more veggies, but no 'new' foods. But then I had problems going to upper rungs, and it all ended in a major binge this summer. I can't blame it all on extended induction, but I'm sure climbing the rungs earlier would have helped me avoid the cheats by making some foods 'legal'.I'm not sure what you should do with 70 lbs to lose. If I were you (and missed nuts and fruits), I would start OWL rather than become tempted to cheat with these foods. But if you choose to do extended induction, you should do it without adding OWL foods. |

| Yeah, those upper rungs... I stayed on extended induction with erm... about umm.. 150lbs to lose, and it worked like a charm... it was having the fear of moving on that killed me... when you get close (within 20-30lbs of your goal) you should be moving up through the rungs to ensure you can adapt and learn what your body can tolerate and all that fun stuff. I think the book also says 6 months (I did not observe this). I totally agree with GEorgiana though, that if you're missing those foods, you should start working towards having them in your eating...

All extended Induction means is that you are doing Induction Phase longer than 14 days. Meaning, you are following the Induction Rules and eating off the Induction Acceptable Foods List. Once you add fruit, or whatever, then you aren't doing the "Extended Induction".

| I stayed on extended induction for about 2 months. Now I am on rung four. I have enjoyed adding nuts and yogurt with fruit! But I am so glad that I did stay on the induction for a while longer. I have now lost 40 lbs on Atkins. I'm hoping to lose 10 more by Christmas. Don't be discouraged if you every couple weeks or so have a slip up and eat a couple nuts. You can still stay on induction the rest of the time. The Atkins Police will never know and you won't stall if you don't over do it! Enjoy! Enjoy life, enjoy family and enjoy the changes going on in your diet and body. Take it slow and easy and just enjoy!
