Question Question about BMI

Maybe some of you can help me wrap my mind around this concept. I am 35 years old, 6'3" and weigh 355lbs. My BMI is around 44. That is not good, I get that. At my BEST shape 15 years ago I weighed 275lbs and was at about 10% body fat. I was an absolute beast. I played football and was very strong. I have been working out solid for 3 months and am very close muscularly to where I was 15 years ago. If I get to 275lbs with 10% body fat, I will still be OBESE! According to the "charts" I will have to be 200lbs to be on the high end of normal. I see that BMI is the measuring stick for most people (including doctors). Am I just a "big dude" that does not fit the mold, or will my being a "beast" at 275 be a health problem. I am just having a hard time accepting this. Thanks in advance for any help.

One of the criticisms about the BMI scale is that it does not take body fat percentage into account so someone who is extremely muscular and in great shape can still be overweight according to the scale. The more preferred method is the waist to hip ratio, which if you do a Google search, you can find out all about.

Your best bet would be to work in conjunction with your doctor or nutritionist to work out a goal weight that suits your particular goals rather than relying on the generic BMI scale.

Yeah I never bother with that chart. It's crap. I also lift weights but if you have low body fat percentage, it doesn't matter what your weight is. Afterall, we're all here for losing fat mainly.
