| Dextrose is another way to spell sugar. It's no quite as carby, but it is still sugar. Even iodized salt has dextrose as a carrier for the iodine. Splenda packets have dextrose in them; thus you are only allowed three servings (packets) a day and you need to count each packet as one carb. You have to very carefully read labels. One example is Sugar Free Cool Whip--it has more carbs and 'sugars' that regular Cool Whip. It's primary ingredient is corn syrup--liquid sugar. That's right--they have Sugar Free written in big red letters right on the front and it's a big lie. When Hillshire Farms came out with the "healthy" luncheon meats with "all natural" ingredients, they changed the word sugar on the ingredients list to read "evaporated cane juice." The definition of evaporated cane juice is SUGAR! That's the process they use to make table (cane) sugar. Don't get me started! You don't need to start over, but you need to be more aware. Most processed foods have sugar hidden in them somewhere. Even sugar free doesn't make a food okay. Sugar free pudding is thickened with corn starch, which is full of bad carbs. Frequently on here we see people on induction telling others to soothe their sweet tooth with sugar free pudding. You might as well be dumping pure sugar in your mouth. The best advice is to eat whole foods as much as possible. Real meat, poultry, fish, eggs, cheese and fresh or frozen veggies. Sadly, they inject turkey and poultry with mystery ingredients which include sugar most of the time. They make it really hard to eat healthy. Sunny!

| Yea, the ways ome manufacturers play with words is just amazing and shows you how evil can sometimes people be!! Yea sunny, most of all the "evaporated cane juice" just ticks me off big time.. Whenever I see this, I just stay away from the whole brand.. Just cannot trust people like that. I believe reading the ingredients is a key to Atkins progress, especially if you are in induction.

| Hi Amber, You know what? I made the same mistake in the summer when I first started to eat this way. I would pick up a pack of beef or turkey pepperoni (Which had Dextrose in it) and I would snack one or two pieces everyday. Then I realized about a month and a half into it what Dextrose was and stopped. For me, it never hampered me in anyway while I was eating it, I continued to lose a lot of weight, however, it is something I would NOT suggest someone trying....I did it because I didn't know better. You haven't screwed yourself up......the worst thing you can do now is start second guessing what you're doing and getting yourself down. We all learn while eating this way and we move forward with the knowledge we gain. I agree with Sunny and Einy, read the packages and learn what these ingredients really are.....we all go through this and you know what...we're a lot healthier and informed for it! Think of this as a positive thing Drink lots of water, keep up with your Induction and fit some form of exercise into your daily routine....just keep going girl. You're going to be just fine All the best to you! Sarina ---------------------------- Heaviest weight last year- 400 lbs. (2007) April 1, 2008 - 387 lbs. | The pepperoni is probably not the culprit (although dextrose is out) But you're on day 17....it's time for your body to take a breather from losing and rearrange itself Just toss the pepperoni and start rung 1. The extra veggies can often restart the losing again ! |

| Don't forget about all of that sodium in pepperoni. THat may make you retain some water. I had some corned beef the other week which looked OK, but I gained 8 poinds in a day. It took me like 4 days to flush all of that sodium out of my system. Be very aware. Good luck and Happy New Year!

| Thanks all for your comments, well I dealt with the dextrose issue, and now have lost 5 1/2 pounds since! Maybe it was the sodium in it, or maybe it's just the way the dextrose affects my body, anywhoo, I stopped eating it, and I started drinking a little bit more water, and boom! I appreciate you guys thanks! |

| Hey, great news Amber...that's terrific!!!! I'm glad you figured out what the culprit was so you could remove it from your food choices. Keep up the great work and keep drinking lots of water! Thank you for the update, I was wondering how you were making out. Sarina --------------------- Heaviest weight last year- 400 lbs. (2007) April 1, 2008 - 387 lbs. | Just a note here.. Splenda as far as I can remember has Dextrose along with the sucralose. Not to say that Dextrose is not bad, but it really depends on the mixture percentages.. nevertheless, it is still need to be avoided during the induction.
