Default Jack Sprat could eat no fat...

Ok - does anyone else's life mirror the old nursery rhyme:

Jack Sprat could eat no fat. His wife could eat no lean. And so between them both, you see, They licked the platter clean!
Even though I've only been doing Induction now for 3 days - I'm beginning to feel that that rhyme is the life inside my house! haha.

My fiance wants to be as supportive as possible, HOWEVER - he still and always will be the kind that believes that high fat diets are BAD for you (and believe me - I understand - due to the fact that I've had the ingrained in my own head for YEARS)...and I myself really want Atkins to work for me and I have to get it into my head that fat IS ok to eat.

But - the last few days of being on it - while, again, he IS trying to be as supportive as possible, he keeps telling me that he firmly believes that fat is bad for you. We really haven't had any issues YET at dinner time - I'm sure something'll come up.

For example - Saturday night we went out. He had chicken parmagagne (sp) over pasta & he ate the bread at the table. I had a OH SO YUMMY 12 oz ribeye (i love steak anyways!) with NO A1 sauce (that was hard to do though, lol) and a side of spinach (again, i love spinach). So saturday night was simple.

Last night, however, he made dinner (as usual) and he made - a pork loin marinated in olive oil and red wine vinigar with rosemary - steamed broccoli - and then he made himself some mashed red potatoes (which I didn't touch!).

First off - HE'S the one who does the cooking in the house (he loves cooking, and I don't) - and if he wants to make himself a starch or carb - I'm cool with it - but at the same time I don't want him to feel like he CAN'T do that every night because I can't.

He says he's cool with making himself a smaller portion of the starch and or carb at dinner - and always making sure we have a vegetable to eat along with our meat (which we've been trying to do regardless) - but it just struck me as funny that rhyme and now I can't get it out of my head!

Anyone else feel like that at home?

Default Re: Jack Sprat could eat no fat...

That is interesting.
My DH is not quite into low fat but he likes to eat his carbs with everything. So especially in the beginning when we were trying to get used to the new way of things there was some friction (lets call it that ). I was thinking in the beginning (and I sometimes still think) that he really pushes those carbs. Who needs to buy two pays from the store? I think I felt more sensibility was needed. On the other hand he felt that my food choices prevented the family from eating that kind of normal food we had always had. I guess that is true too. I tried to be very open with my feelings and he has made changes (for instance he does not buy bacon I cannot eat anymore - so now we can all enjoy the bacon at the same time). And we are working on finding good family dishes that we all can eat to replace the old favourites.
