Default coffee and diet pepsi

hi everyone,,just a quick question, will the caffeine in coffee stop me from going into ketosis? or is it that the diet doesnt allow caffeine because you can crave sweets? i really need my diet pepsi most,,that helps me to not want food,,,will it be ok?

Dr. Atkins wrote that caffeine has the ability to destabilize blood sugar. That in turn can cause things like cravings, insomnia, etc. (there's a huge list in the book.)

Also part of the weight loss on Atkins depends on keeping your blood sugar stable.

Diet Rite has no caffeine, no carbs, no calories, no sodium and is made with Splenda. Better for you then diet pepsi.

Afraid so, coffee has 1g carb per cup (and that's without cream or splenda - just black).

Yeah, i wrote about my caffeine addiction in the addicitons section. 2 days of a migraine getting off caffeine. If it's not a drug, then nothing is.

Been cold turkey and off it for months. I used to own a coffee shop, so you know I was hooked, heck I was a pusher!!!

I'll chime in here. I have been doing Atkins for about 8 years. I have been on and off coffee during the time (mostly on). My personal experience is that it didn't make much difference during my original weight loss from 215 to 180. I was drinking coffee when I started. Got off all forms of caffeine for a while to see if weight loss would accelerate. I did not. In the end I was successful with Atkins and drinking some coffee every day. I basically felt better with it than without it. I use heavy cream and splenda at home. When out I ask for Breve Latte (which uses half and half) with Sugar Free Vanilla. For sodas, I buy anything without Nutri Sweet. I buy Diet Rite (various flavors) and Hansons Diet for no caffeine and Diet Coke with Splenda for soda with caffeine.

If you check the info on the usda website, you'll see they have changed the nutritional content of coffee....about 2 grams carbs in 60 ounces, and they increased the ash content (yum!!)
I quit coffee my first time out for the 2 week induction as required by the book, and then added it back slowly. I do drink coffee this time around as well. From what I've read, and since I have no idea where at this point, take it for what it's worth, caffeine affects the blood sugar levels of diabetics and prediabetics the most, and can actually be preventive for people without those conditions. you'll have to do your own research and make your own decisions....but....if you find yourself craving sweets with that cup of coffee, it's a good indication that you should give it up.
