Default Bacon is ok to eat on Atkins, but is it good for you on Atkins?

I know bacon is an acceptable food on Atkins, and you can eat acceptable meats until satisfied, but it's so high in sodium- which will then retain water in your system.

Thus- is it ok to eat bacon on Atkins?

Bacon is just fine on Atkins- but it's something I make an effort to limit (along with sausage or any other processed meat) to 3-4 servings a week.

It's processed, it's very high in sodium, and there are other things I can eat that are a lot more nutritional bang for the buck, if you know what I mean.

That said, I refuse to give bacon up.

You can always try the lower-sodium, nitrate-free options. While not exactly salt-free, they're a tiny step in the right direction.

I love bacon! BUT, I haven't been able to find any that do not have any sugar in the curing process. Yesterday at the store, I checked every single package of bacon, including canadian. But no luck.....This makes me sooo sad. Does anyone know of a brand that doesn't? I am doing induction and am trying to have a clean one.
TIA.

i ALWAYS buy the lowered sodium one. the problem i've encountered with Atkins is that so many foods have salt in them, and i don't really like the taste of salt.

I also find that they all have sugar in them. So far i've just been avoiding any of the ones that have things such as Maple and Brown Sugar as their flavoring. I have been looking at the carb count on the label and wen it says 0 carbs i am just counting it is 1. i hope it's OK.

None of the fish, eggs, meat and vegetables I buy (and which I eat 95%) on Atkins come with salt. They are fresh and unprocessed.

Gwaltney makes a bacon that says "no sugar" on the front left side of the red package. That's what I use. Primrose also makes no sugar bacon, which can be found at Wal-Mart--at least here in Virginia, the hog-eat capital of the world.

i live on bacon.
I eat bacon 3-4 days a week.
I get all kinds of bacon, depends on what is on sale.
I don't worry about the sugar used in curing, but I have found that the no sugar types cook better, and don't leave as much residue in the pan.
I use the kroger brand no sugar bacon most often, but if something else is on a bog sale, I snap it up. I have trouble hitting my 20g a day anyway. Plus I am not even on induction!!
I eat veg, but still fall short. So, I don't sweat it.
