Default Need some help

Okay, I have tried atkins before, and I initially lose some weight on induction, then slow right down, even though I follow it carefully. I get discouraged, then give up. So, I got down to 183 and now am back up to my heaviest at 199. How sickening since I'm only 5'1. I feel so sick and gross and I guess I just need some encouragement. Like, maybe someone could give me a sample menu that worked well for them that I could try to keep me motivated. I need some help. Thanks!

You may be one of those people that needs to immediately start moving up the rungs to continue weight loss. In the past, have you tried to stay on induction for more than the first two weeks? This can cause stalls in a lot of people, and sometimes the cure is to move up the rungs and add more carbs, it jumpstarts your body.

and it isn't sickening that you are at 199 pounds, there is nothing sickening about people being overweight-- it's simply unhealthy. When your goal becomes primarily health, and not looks, you will be more likely to succeed.

In the first days you lose water weight. After the water goes away, your weight loss (obviously) slows down because the main thing you are losing is fat. So between losing 2 lbs of water in one day and losing 0.5 lbs of fat in two days, I think the latter is better. Beside this, from what you are saying I understand you did not complete the induction because you got discouraged by the slow loss. If the number on the scale affects you so much, you should only weigh at the end of the two weeks and not daily. Personally, I weigh every morning and this works better for me than staying away from the scale for a week or so, but this really depends on every person. If you get discouraged -- and you do, since you went off track not even for gaining some pounds (which will happen at times no matter how amazingly you eat and exercise), but only for losing less in 2-3 days than you did in the first few -- set a day as your weigh in day and avoid the scale the rest of the week.

Post *your* menu. Are you eating the same foods everyday? Are you sure you are following the rules of induction to the "T"? Are you exercising? Drinking enough water? Eating Atkins bars/shakes?

I don't see how this could help you unless you decide to eat the same stuff everyday (which is the path to failure in my opinion), but here is a menu I had during my induction:

Breakfast:
1/2 cup chopped pepper (red, yellow, green) + 1/2 cup cucumber w/ olive oil and red wine vinegar
2 oz camembert
6 oz coffee w/ 1 tbsp cream

Lunch:
4 oz turkey, with 1 tbsp mayo
1 cup mushroom salad (contains 1 tbsp mayo and 1 tbsp sour cream... some spices and parsley, but these are in negligible quantities)

Dinner:
5-6 oz steamed fish
1 cup cauliflower w/ butter
1 oz cheddar

Water: about 130 oz

And if you didn't do that already, read the book.

Good luck with a clean, 2-week long, induction... and stay away from the damn scale!

Despite all your good intentions, you're mightily tempted by a food you're not supposed to have. What to do? I'll tell you this: You'd better have a strategy ready!"

Hi Sue, I don't have any real help for you but I just wanted to say that I'm also 5'1". I started out at 250 and got down to 190. Now I'm at 210. Goal weight is 120. The only thing that works for me is to stay on plan
Good luck to you.

Sue, here's a link to my stats which contain all my menus. Hopefully you'll find something helpful! After a few weeks of losing (both times I started - feb 08 and dec 0 I usually don't lose for awhile. However, it DOES eventually kick back in. And anyway, slow and steady wins the race, right? If you stay on plan and lose 1 pound every week 6 months you'd be 24 pounds closer to your goal weight. However, if you go off plan and stay at the same weight or even gain weight (which is the likeliest scenario for us all) the 6 months will go by anyway. Where would you rather be at the end of the 6 months?

I restarted on December 10 and am already on the nuts rung. On Thursday I can start adding berries and melons. Time flies!

Wishing you the best! You can do it!
