Default Survived Mexican

I made it through a major hurdle tonight at the Mexican Restaurant. Mexican is truly a hard food for me since almost everything is rice, beans, etc... I really hate paying $8 or $10 for a meal and just picking around at the little bit of chicken that is in the meal. Tonight though I ordered Chicken Nachos without the nachos. The waiter kind of looked at me funny until I explained to him that I wanted everything exactly the same except to leave the nachos off. I actually ended up with way more chicken by doing this. I love eating the mexican and it was pretty good knowing that I didn't fall off the wagon.

My family and I are hispanic and so of course we love mexican food. We eat out often and it is usually at a mexican restaurant. You could have ordered Carne Asada (skirt steak) w/o the beans and rice with sauteed veggies and guacamole. Or sometimes I order fajitas any kind and have them lessen the amount of sauteed onions and add more sauteed peppers and mushrooms. This is just a few suggestions if you ever decide to go out to mexican again. Good luck.....

I had Polo Feliz when I went to our favorite Mexican restaurant. It is a grilled chicken breast pounded flat with grilled peppers, onions, mushrooms and shrimp then covered in cheese....I ask for no cheese on top and 1/2 the onions.....I was ecstatic that I only ate 1/2 of my meal and brought the rest home for the next day. I had them bring the beans and rice for my husband - he had ordered a meal that didn't include them so it was a win/win for both of us. Missari - thank you for the suggestions -- I love Carne Asada - and I had thought of fajitas. It's actually easier to order than you'd think. Thanks for the idea of "nacho-less chicken nacho's"....maybe I'll try that also!

Thanks for the suggestions. One of the problems I have at the Mexican restaurants, is that all the food that I am familiar with is usually loaded with carbs. When trying to eat clean, I'll go 2 or 3 times and order things that turn out to be totally different than what I expected, and really not have enough low carb items in them to make a meal. The other problem is that if you eliminate all of these beans, rice, etc... on some meals you really can't justify paying the price for the amount of food that you get . The good thing about the chicken nacho's is that they are only around $5, so even though your leaving off an item, the price is still reasonable. My dad actually brings in his own low carb tortillas to eat with the fajitas.

What I do is I eat the inside of a burrito. It's always a bummer when they hardly put anything inside it, though! I usually get meat, cheese and sour cream.

Good job though!

For me, ordering fajitas, (my favorite place has a combination of shirmp, pork, chicken and beef) and having sour cream and a littel guacamole, I am statisfied and can bring home half for another meal. I don't feel deprived at all. It might cost a little more, but it is like buying 2 meals. Another good Mexican meal is to order the Taco Salad, but on a plate and not in the high carb eatable bowl.

Not if the guacamole is homemade... possibly if they buy it pre made it made have all sorts of weird stuff in it. I usually ask and most mexican restaurants in my area anyway make it from scratch. You can tell a big difference in the pre made and homemade I think.

I also love Mexican food and I do either carne asada or fajitas or even a taco salad and I ignore the bowl.
