    Default The Anti-Social Atkineer

That's me! I have told all my friends to not invite me out for the next few months. Hopefull by the end of April if not by this summer. I'm sorry folks, I just can't do it. I can not be social while dieting. I know my weakness so why bother risking setting myself up for failure?

I also think it's better for my dh to take a grocery list and do the shopping...simply too much temptation!

Hrm.. well, most people tend to look at this as a Way of Life, not a temporary diet. I think that as you progress up the rungs, you will see that you can go out and eat things you like without crashing and burning.

I hear ya... i know it's a way of life and not just a temporary diet, but here in the beginning stages it's really difficult to go out to a club, or even dinner with friends without wanting to have a couple of drinks. So for my sanity, i'm just staying away for the next couple months until i've made significant progress =)

Until this diet, i didn't realize how much of my socializing centered around food. It's always let's go to dinner, or meet up for drinks, or brunch, yada yada yada....

Now i'm trying to make plans like, let's go for a run at the beach, or let's meet up for a hike etc. It's not easy to curb myself, but im' trying & luckily all the friends are on board so it makes it easier =)

    Good luck!!!

I know its a way of life but while I am in the weight loss stage I need to stay away from socializing as all of my social functions include JUNK FOOD and lots of it.

3 weeks ago I launch a product presentation for my new home based biz. They are mainly health and nutrition products. I put out a vegatable tray, dip and made herbal tea. i thought this was more appropriate. One guess showed up with brownies and another with an Ice Cream Cake!!!!

Mine were nice enough to sit homemade fudge and cookies about 2 feet away from me during the holidays. You've gotta love 'em.

I didn't mean not going out, but you can still lose weight and have drinks, you just need to be on the appropriate rung. I avoided everyone and everything for 3 weeks when I got back on the wagon... I wouldn't even eat anything I didn't make. *shrug*

I say socailize away, just bring a dish to pass that's Atkins-friendly or tell someone to let you know where you're going ahead of time and look up their menu online. And as far as drinking goes... Every bar I've ever been to serves water.

I'm with plsmchic -- I know for a fact about water at bars -- I was the one making your favorite glass with a twist or without a twist for a few years. While bartending I saw many people who came in and sat with others, ordered water and never thought twice about it....also now it's cleverly called being the "designated driver".....

I waited 2 weeks before I allowed myself to eat anything outside my own kitchen, then I was very careful. I have eaten out 3 times including today, each time it gets easier. You will learn your limits of what you can and cannot do. Salad is always a safe option, take your own dressing - meat is also pretty safe, baked, broiled or even fried, as long as it isn't breaded. If you ask most restaurants will prepare your food the way you want it. My mother was appalled the first time I ask for special food - but once she saw that the waitress had no problem with it, and I actually got what I ordered she wasn't so negative the next time.

You do what you feel is best for you --- BTW, can I send your hubby to the grocery store for my groceries also??? LOL
